Unidentified Ceiling Phenomena

Hello All
I am hoping to attach photos of these brown spots that are appearing on the ceiling strip above the rear couch. Don't know exactly what the purpose of these ceiling strips are. But, we are getting these weird brown spots all along the length of it. It does not appear to be water spots. We have removed them once with 409, but they have reappeared. If anyone has any theories, we would appreciate your input. This one has us stumped.

oops, I thought I could just download an image but it's asking for the url.
Don't know how to upload a jpg in this program.

Could be staples coming through. We have them in some spots.

Odd. It works for me.

Anyway, if you want to add a picture to a post scroll down to a clicky “Manage attachments”. Click in it and you can browse and choose up to 4 file names. Select the pic(s) you want and click on “Upload”. When upload is complete you can submit your post and the pic(s) will be shown.

If the “Manage attachments” clicky is not shown, click on “Go advanced”.

We lived in a different house, (in a former life) and we had one bedroom where those types of brown spots appeared on the ceiling. We tried everything to clean them off, including Spic-n-Span. Do you know, if you wash a wall or ceiling with Spic-n-Span and wipe it off, let it dry, then turn on a black-light, the Spic-n-Span crystals glow! You can't see them under normal light, but under a black-light.

Anyway, we tried everything. No matter what we did, they kept coming back. I figure it was a chemical in the dry wall that was seeping out.

We also had a Keystone Springdale where similar bright brown-red color rust type color looking spots started appearing above the shower. Again, we washed, scrubbed, used bleach, all sorts of thing. Never did figure it out.

The best we could figure, it was bug poop, especially when it started appearing on other places on the ceiling.

There is one other possibility .... condensation. Water droplets condense, mingle with the dust on the ceiling, collect into a droplet and then the water evaporates, leaving a condensed spot of dirt that turns hard and looks like a spot of stain.

That is most likely evidence of a water leak in the roof. If its in front of the rear overhead cabinets then I would check your rear lap seam if it has a rear cap. If you don't have a cap then my next thought is condensation in the roof from a loose duct or poorly taped plenum or a A/C gasket leak.

I agree with this thought. The way the spots sort of run along the edge of the strip also seems like water.

I agree with RVMAN on water damage

Definitely looks like water getting in from somewhere. I would check the roof very closely, the leak may not be directly above the discoloration in the ceiling as the water can follow some strange paths in a ceiling space. Good Luck!

I had the same issue on the ceiling strip that extends through the shower. I think mine is from condensation formed from using the shower. Either way, that brown "goo" where the strip meets the ceiling is caused by moisture.

Hopefully you go onto the roof to inspect seems and penetrations. Dicor self leveling is your friend when it comes to skylights, vents, etc. Usually do mine at least twice a year. Also, periodically coating the roof with a sealant helps preserve your roof. My rig is 19 years old, I purchased in 2016. Previous owner did it at least once before I got it. I coated when I first purchased, and just did it again a few weeks ago. Roof looks brand new going on 20. Just had big rain...no leaks!

Brown spots means there is water in your ceiling and it is causing the staples to rust. To upload pics, use the standard paper clip icon as shown in attached image

I had brown spots after I put the slide in and found that the sweep on the top of the slide was the cause if the roof was wet from dew or rain. This may not be your situation

Mice in Attic?

I've seen this before and it was mouse urine bleeding through the ceiling panels...they got up into the space between the roof and the ceiling. To verify you could remove the Skylight housing to peek into the attic space and look for evidence of mice...for insulation disturbed and feces.

If they are like the yellowish brown spots in a few places on the ceiling of my Monty, I'd say that it is aging adhesive that was used to attach the strips. They were obviously not careful about keeping the adhesive where it belonged. I have scrubbed some of mine off but I'm reluctant to scrub too hard on the rest for fear of making a hole in the covering of the ceiling panels.

My 2009 had these at nearly every ceiling strip when we bought three years ago. Washed, sanded, primed and painted ceiling and strips. It brightened up our rig and haven’t had any issues since. Definitely worth the time.

We had same problem in our 2019 MHC 330RL. Rear air conditioner was not properly installed over roof cutout and cold air was being pumped into roof cavity, condensing and running water onto ceiling tiles and leaking out through joints - same color spots appeared. Dealer fixed without charge to us.
