Upgrading Circuit Breakers for Hydraulic Pump
The trailer is two years old now and we want to upgrade the breakers on the pump before we have any problems. My question is if you have a Level Up system do you have two breakers, one for the slides and one for the Level Up? It sure looks that way to me.
Thanks

No. You have two breakers, one for the hydraulic pump, which is the slides and the jacks, and the other breaker is for everything else in the rig. When I replaced the breaker to the pump, I did not replace the other breaker. I also do not remember where the other wire goes off the load side of the 80 amp breaker, just wired it the same as it was wired on the old 40 amp breaker. I also found some loose connections when I installed the new breaker, so it's a good idea to check everything you can while doing this.

Thanks for straightening me out about the breaker system on the Montana, your pictures are great. One more question is the wiring you show with the 80 amp breaker the original from the factory or did you upgrade the wiring too?
Thanks again.

All the wiring is original, and I did check the wire to the pump, and it is #4 strand copper, which is why the 80 amp breaker works. Smaller wire would be too small for the 80 amp breaker. Also, the breaker I installed is a manual reset style, which I have never had to reset, but I believe they make a self reset type breaker too, but I did not see the need for this.

Where did you find that 80 amp breaker?? I am having problems with mine also, but goes into the shop on Tuesday for hopefully a quick look and repair. My existing breaker is a 50 amp non-resetable. Also, I have a smaller wire connected to one of the posts of the pump breaker, which isnt show in the above pictures.

Got mine on eBay or Amazon, don't remember which. Did a search on Amazon for Bussmann CB185-80 High-Amp Breaker, and found it for a little under $24. That's less than I paid a few years ago.

I'm having trouble with my slide relay kicking in and out. Is this the reason you went to an 80 amp breaker?
Thanks

Yes, and this issue and the upgrade to the 80 amp breaker, as I understand, is approved by Lippert.

Thanks Bob, per your suggestion and from other Montana Owners, I have ordered the Bussman 80 amp breaker and will install.
Thanks.

Okay I bought a breaker, problem is I don't see any breaker in the line. Looking at your picture I see you added the breaker just above the connection split from the battery. Was there a 40/50 amp breaker there you replaced ?
My unit has the wire going from the battery split direct up to a large black (what I think/thought is a relay/circuit breaker) that has what looks to be a supply for the pump to push slides out and another for pressurizing to bring the slides back in.

What model trailer do you have speedster?
Mine looks the same as rohrmann"s and thanks to his picture I easily replaced mine a couple of years ago.

So are you saying the circuit breaker is under the red cover that the yellow connectors are attached too ? In the original picture....
I thought this was just a distribution bar ?

Hopefully someone that has a 3790RD can look at theirs to see if it's wired the same way. It seems strange that you have no other breaker for the rest of the trailer if the black box you are referring to is in fact a breaker for the hydraulics.

my system looks pretty much like the one in the original picture above, the control box ( i think that is what it is) is mounted on the ceiling of the battery hold instead of on the wall but otherwise looks pretty much the same.

Switch out the one that goes to the hydraulics with the new 80 amp breaker and you're good to go.
