We just got back from a 2 month trip up to NY to ME. Google, Goodsam, Road Hunter and Waze all took me down a road to a 12 ft tunnel. Thank God I saw the sign painted atop the tunnel. Had to back up several 100 ft to turn around. I’ve lost faith in all navigation products.

Been lucky. In well over 100,000 miles of towing never had that happen. Never used any of those products, however. Always have used Rand McNelly or Garmin RV GPS's backed up with a truckers atlas.

I've been what we call "googled" a few times. It really does take multiple means of navigation to not get jammed.

I'd look at that as an adventure, unless I was towing. I just looked it up on Google Earth and it's only 13 mi to U.S.16 from the west entrance, it could be a very beautiful drive

I look for roads like that. Is it doable with a trailer? Many times when I'm out that way I'm pulling a 34' bumper pull open car trailer. I've pulled 14, 14A and 16 but not with this trailer

We have a Garmin RV GPS, you put in the numbers for your RV....height, weight, length, etc, and they keep you off roads that will be a problem. It's worked fine...so far.

GPS took us down a country road once. We came around a curve and into a tree line where the road went down hill. Not a sharp down hill, but still a rather quick down hill. At the bottom of the "valley" the road was flooded over. I asked my wife if she thought we should attempt crossing the flooded road. She studied the situation out a moment and then said:

"No".

I said, "Why not?"

And she "Look at that, isn't the top tops of fence posts sticking out of the water about 6 inches?"

I looked a little closer. She was right. I backed the trailer up about a 1/4 miles before I could turn the trailer around in a muddy field.

Lesson learned.

Agreed - fortunately, this was a road the CG recommended for site seeing. We love our Garmen RV GPS

Well it finally happened to us. Low bridge!!!
We were on our way to our overnight stop at
Mc Conchie Heritage Acres Camp
Galway NY. Normally we are reluctant to take state roads because they are notorious for low tree branches and tight corners. They ARE listed in the "Motor Carriers Road Atlas" for low clearance.
Except for NY 63 east of Ballston Spa, NY where it crosses a railway bridge.
43⁰00'38.2"N, 73⁰50'17.8" W
Traveling westbound on i90, Google maps had us get off at exit 12 on US 9 south. Then turn west on state route 63. In fairness...
There WAS a sign with two red flags on top
"NO TRUCKS OVER 4 TONS".
We are right at that limit. No problem.
NO HIGHT WARNING SIGNS.
We preceeded down the road. A couple of miles later, we see a 12'11" warning sign. I pulled over on the 3' shoulder. DW walked up the road to confirm. I started looking on Google maps, satellite view for possible turn arounds. TG just ahead down a dirt road there was baseball fields with a large gravel parking lot. We turned around there and went back the way we came. Called the Campground and asked for directions. They said get off at the next exit (13) on i90.
Nothing on their website regarding directions to their Campground.
In future we will double check Campground directions if not posted on their website

Don't know if anyone has seen this YouTube video or not (It was posted Sep 14, 2021), but talking about "scenic" roads and low bridges, I think this poor fellow goofed up somehow.

I got about 1 mile or so down Crazy Woman trail. Turned around. It was so rough and bouncy and full of ruts I did not like it. And I look for scenic dirt/gravel roads also. It would have taken at least 1 to 2 hours to drive it for me. Maybe they had a rain that washed part of the road out or something, but was not good.
EDIT: After looking on the net at pictures, I think maybe I went down the wrong trail! My road was about 10-12 feet wide, completely wrapped in forest and didn't look much like a road.
