Roof Problems

Hello, we have a 3791 RD Montana that I just discovered looks like nails starting to protrude through the top of the roof. I will be trying to file a claim for extended insurance morning and also call Montana to see if there’s any chance I could still cover it. But for the current frame time, can anyone recommend what to do would it be better just to silicone the nails or put some ether-bond tape on it. The photo looks like it’s poking thru yet but the photo has a bad shadow

Thanks
Larry

The dreaded staple coming through the TPO. That happened to me and I got it covered by the 3 year structural warranty. A new roof! Document with pictures! Dicor should be fine for a temp fix.

LHinkle - lots of threads here with pics of the roof showing the same thing. If your unit is still under warranty then file a claim. If you notice more of the same when you are outside the warranty - the general consensus here is don’t do anything to the points where you see the nails. The membrane is not yet ripped and may never poke thru - just let it be. I plan to keep an eye on mine and use eternabond to reinforce the suspect point.

I had one sticking up so far I finally cut a small slit.
I discovered it wasn't a nail it was a screw. I backed it out, injected Dicor into the hole and screwed it back down. Then more Dicor around the head and inside the slit I cut. Then pressed it all down and covered the slit with Eternabond.
So far so good. There are others I have been watching. When the time comes I will do the same.
I hate that eventually my roof will look like a checker board.
I wish Keystone would do a better job with their fasteners.

Mine was EPDM. About 3 years those started "popping up". None came through the membrane. Debated on it and cut EPDM patches to cover them so they wouldn't pop through (about 15-16), rolled them on and sealed them. When I traded it in almost 4 years later not a thing had changed. IMO it worked out fine.

Thanks for posting this and also the answers. I was just about to post the same issue with my 2021 MHC.

I have found the same issue on my roof. In addition to the staples/screws coming up, but not through the roof material, it appears that the roof edge trim that the screws are holding down is coming up since the staples/screws aren't holding it down and in place. In visiting with a service dept person, they suggested putting screws down through the fabric and tin to secure it back into place. And then cover the screws with Pro-Tek self leveling roof caulk. Haven't gotten around to it yet but that's the plan. If I end up doing a long series of screws the full length, I may also consider covering it with the RV roof tape.

My first Montana lasted 8 years and 70,000 miles and had staples lifting up the whole time. Never came thru the surface. My newer one is has done 8 1/2 years and another 70,000 miles and staples never popped thru, although the surface was getting grainy and almost like coarse sandpaper, so I had a new one sprayed on last fall.

Yup, same here, I have 2 what i think are nail heads, they haven't poked thru the membrane so far, try not to walk on them and they will most likely be fine, if you still have warranty, get them repaired.
