Power Converter/Charger

Recently I plugged my 03' 2955 RL back up to shore power after it had been off for three days. A day later, I was walking past the trailer and noticed a strong chemical odor. I began to investigate and soon found the odor was coming from the battery compartment. I removed the battery box lid and it was full of condensation. The battery was very hot and the battery cables were discolored and hot. The battery was cooked! I unplugged immediately. I accessed the Parallax Series 7300 converter/charger and it was still warm. It appears it failed to quit charging when it was supposed to. Anyone else ever experienced this? Can the unit be repaired or will I have to replace it? I know I will need a new battery.

The battery had been serviced prior to putting it back in the trailer a month ago. It has been on charge most of that time.

The darn thing may just have had a shorted cell, or It could be a bad converter, if it were me, I would change it out to a newer 60 amp charger with a Charge Wizard 3 stage controller. I had an old old trailer, and was able to buy the 'innerds' and change them out using the shell of the old converter.

RJ, same trouble with my 03 3280. Same Parallax converter. Always had boil out troubles. Put in 2 new batteries so they'd be equal. Still boiled. On order is Iota unit with IQ4. Everybody I've talked with says Iota is the way to go. I think Montana went to the Iota instead of Parallax. Good luck, Mick

I would guess 45 amps or so. With no three stage charge.
