Maxx Fan vent won't open
Is there some trick to getting the vent for the electric Maxx Fan over our kitchen area to open? I am able climb a step ladder and crank it open manually and, then, to close it with the switch BUT, when I hit the switch for it open, I only get a short beep and no movement at all.
OTOH, when I hit the switch to close it while it's already in the closed position, I get the same short beep followed by a soft clunk indicating -- to me, at least, -- that the motor is trying to close it. There is no "clunk" sound when the open switch is pressed -- just a beep. The fan itself works just fine and the vent closes as soon as the switch is pressed. Only the vent refuses to open by the switch.
I'm getting a little tired of climbing that step ladder, so I hope that this makes sense and that some kind soul can suggest a solution. Many thanks!

Not sure, because both of mine are fantastics, but it sounds to me like something in the opening mechanism or the frame where it closes needs to be lubed.

The top lid of the fan is stuck to the rubber seal on the top lip. Try opening/closing cycles a couple of times to see if it will correct its issue. The real fix is to use some lube on the top of the seal to prevent the sticking. At least that was what my issue was and it's all better now. Means a trip up to coat that seal after giving the lid some assistance from top side as someone does the open command. Just don't stick your fingers in those blades! John

Silicone on the lid seal is a good idea, but the OP says there is no movement or noise, just a short peep when the fan button is pressed.

Does yours have the rain sensor? I believe mine makes a beep when it is sensing rain and won't open, can't remember for sure as its only happens once. Wonder if the sensor is bad or has water on it. Just a thought.

Good news! I think the sticky fan vent mystery has been solved. I finally got around to calling Maxx Fan tech support today and a very knowledgeable, English speaker answered on the first ring. He listened to my story, determined (as I suspected) that the PC board for the "open the vent" motor was bad, took my address and promised to send me a new one. He then told me exactly how to install it. Tech support just doesn't get any better than that.
Thanks to all who responded to my plea for help.
