RV Park/Campground Discount Membership

I have a discount membership with Passport America, but I'm wondering if there are any better discount memberships that have a lot more rv parks in their database than Passport America that provide discounts in the USA and Canada.

Appreciate your input.

David and Pat,
We have the Camp Club USA or something like that and find that it is about ths same as PA. I'd be interested to learn of any other clubs out there. Dennis

For our Winter travels this year we bought a passport american membership, we've used it twice so far, and We were wo ndering if because we now have this that we are put in the worst area of the park, barely fit on sites etc. This has been our exerience with this membership. I emphasized the length of our stay, not just passing through and the size of our rig and we were placed in the worst site when there were plenty others in a nicer area available. Just my own personal thoughts on passport. We are at Brauning Lake in San Antonio. We also have KOA & Good Sam and are very happy with those.

We have had some very nice sites at PPA parks. Some list in the book that PPA ratesare for backins. I call before we arrive and tell them I am a member and ask what kind of sites they have availabe. I also check in Trailer Life Directory for info on.the campground

We have PA and are very happy with it. More than pays for itself and have thought we had a bad spot because of it. Some parks are good, some are only so-so, and a few are not good. You have to do some checking on the internet for reviews, etc. Pay attention to valid dates and how many days.

Happy trails..............

We have been PA members for about 4 years now. We have run the gamut from super resorts to itty-bitty family owned (back-in only, narrow roads, big trees, low lines, etc.) campgrounds. Passport America is constantly adding new campgrounds to their lists. Some, good...some not so good.

1000 Trails, Escapees, and other organizations, will all have their good and bad locations. For instance, the SKP Ko-Op in Yuma, Arizona, is always loaded during the winter and mostly closed during the summer.

PA's cataloge is a good inch thick. There are lots of places to choose from but you have to read the whole write-up on the individual campground. I usually pick one, then look it up in Woodall's, Good Sam, and Trailer Life Campground Directory. Between all of them, I can get a pretty good picture of the campground.

And...No, they don't give me the worst spots because I am a PA member.

We have been PA members for the past 4 years. At $44 a year, you typically get your return on investment after 4 nights staying at a PA Park. Yes, we have been in some that we were glad it was just an overnighter, and we have been in Good Sam, KOA, and even Military, that we were glad it wa an overnighter, or very short stay. The on-line version of PA at passportamerica.com is more up-to-date than the published book. Once we determine where we will stay, I always use the RV Park Reviews web site to see what others thing about it. Also, I'll use one of the on-line mapping programs and look at the layout of the campground. Planning like that has allowed me to choose what I "like."

Good luck.

As others have said, they all have ups and downs. We dropped our PPA after the initial 3 year membership--we did not travel where there were that many PPA RV parks to choose from. I also felt like the parks did not really like giving those deep discounts even for 1 night. We still use KOA, GoodSam and Escapee--these provide the expected services and give some discount. As with everything else--you pay for what you get.
