I don't think its a bad way to go. I have been thinking about switching out my pin box as well. The gen 3 is one of the ones I have been looking at. Its approved for use on Lippert frames.

Just ordered our Gen 3 a couple of days ago from Tow Universe as they seem to have the best package deals around. If your pin box wing spacing is 12 1/2" inside to inside, you will need the spacer adapters as the Goosebox itself is 12" wide.
Being an old country boy, I'm looking forward to going back to a gooseneck ball. Fun part will be teaching the DW, but there are some tricks to make hitching up easier. Lots of YouTube videos for the less experienced. Good luck with your decision and happy camping!

Our 23 3761FL is on it's way. Trying to make a decision on a hitch setup. Looking at either the Gen 3 Goosebox or a B&W with a Curt flex air.
I have no experience with the roto flex that it comes with and thinking adding some cushioning to the hitch will reduce stress on the camper and improve the ride.
Bed space when not towing is not a factor in my decision. In fact I think you lose bed space while actually towing as you have to leave room for the goosebox to swing side to side. With the fifth wheel it's elevated so you can have stuff beside the hitch.
I guess my main concern is stability. What's everyone's opinion and experience in high wind conditions with a goosebox vs a fifth wheel?
This is our first fifth wheel. We just sold a 37' Reflection bumper pull that we used a Hensley hitch with. Growing up though I drove all across the country with a 40' gooseneck race car trailer but it wasn't 13' 5" tall.

First pull from Northeast TX to OKC. Went west on US 82 to pick up I-35N at Gainsville. Knew full well there was going to be some roadway with some pretty nasty whoopy-doos East of Gainesville. I was amazed at how much better the ride was vice the stock Rota-Flex and B&W Companion that was previously installed. Chucking was basically eliminated. Trip back home was into higher winds than I'm normally comfortable with. Stability even in stiff cross winds and two lane semi traffic was a non issue. Full disclosure, I've preferred pulling gooseneck for well over 45 years. Going to be putting my B&W Companion up on Market Place.

I bought one earlier this year. Nothing but a waist of time and energy with anything else. Backing to hook up is like anything else new to you just a little practice and it becomes no harder than a plate hitch.

Congrats on the new hitch. I strongly suggest getting a magnetic ball alignment guide to help when hooking up. Place one on the gooseneck (centered), and the other in your truck bed about 6-8" in front of your truck bed hitch ball. I can now hook up usually on the first time. Etrailer sells the one I got. It's got better magnets than the ones sold at Harbor Freight and it comes with lights for aligning at night.

Going to install the gen 3 goose box on my 3231CK. I have 2022 Ford F350 Tremor with B&W goose ball. Anyone with the setup that can advise on best position for bed clearance? Top holes or lower holes on mount on 5th wheel. 2.5 inch difference in the two mounting positions.

See this was your first post so a big howdy and welcome to the MOC family! You'll find lots of friendly and helpful folks here when you have questions.
The majority of Goosebox owners wind up slightly nose high - us included. We are as high as up on mounting holes as I can go. Happy camping and safe travels

Update - Goosebox Gen 3 installed and absolutely love it. I'm using a B&W gooseball with my Ford shortbed and have nearly 90 degree turning radius with 7" of bed rail clearance. Pulling the gooseball sure beats trying to remove a 5th wheel hitch when I need to use the truck bed.

Next upgrade you need for a short bed is this. I really didn`t need it but bought it anyway gives you an additional 5 inches of cab to cap clearance. I don`t think about that problem anymore.
Gen- Y 5 inch offset ball. About $500.00 worth the peace of mind to me.

I will be very interested in your experience with the gen y offset and what if any impacts there are to overall handling. I have a pullrite auto slider now with no complaints except hitch removal.

I had the pullrite slider boat anchor for some time worked as designed just got tired of it in the way anytime I got in the back of the truck and went to the goose box, and wouldn`t go back to a plate hitch if you gave me one. As for the Gen Y extended ball mount it gives you 5 more inches of clearance and I don`t even think about that issue anymore no matter what the conditions. It did not change the way the unit pulls or change the load on the axle it did not create interference with the bed rails or tailgate. It did make it easier to put air in as it moved the Goosebox closer to the open tailgate and you get in between the camper and tailgate a little easier. It`s very well made but a little pricey for what you get.
