Radios active in new 3295

QST,
Well I have the station installed in the new 3295. I mounted the radio control heads on the wall. I have two speakers one on each side of the window under the cabinet. I put a hole in the right rear corner of the desk going down behind the drawers.

I added another 110 VAC outlet under the desk tied to the one above the desk. The power strip is plugged into it as well as our voltmeter.

Behind the desk drawers are the power strip, power supply, 12 volt sealed battery and radio units are mounted along the walls. The coax goes down through the floor into a cavity opening where the box is mounted. I installed the IC AH-4 tuner in this area too.

The VHF/UHF antenna is a Comet model that does not require a ground plane. It is lashed to an MFJ 33’ telescoping pole.

My main HF antenna is 120’ long wire and 120’ counter poise. I put a power access box on the metal under skirt where the wires come down and the tuner is mounted. Note the four bolts holding the tuner. This bottom panel is not secured yet.

Great looking job, John.
About time someone gave Ozz a run for his money.

John,

How do you ground your rig? Do you use a separate ground rod or depend on the park ground through the power cable? I was going to tie everything to a copper ground plate, then tie that to the frame. I've seen several comments before that the 5er should, in essence, float, but as soon as you put the stabilizers and landing legs down, you've grounded the frame, though not necessarily very well (I guess that depends on what you put the stabilizers into). Good grounding practice says to put as many grounds in as possible, as close to the equipment as possible, just make sure they're all bonded together.

Bob, KI7GN

BTW, would you please change my name on the list to Bob...Robert was my mother's "I've done something wrong" call to me. KI7GO's name is Sharon. Tx

Nicely done John! Once we get to AZ I'll be putting your ideas to good use in our Monty.

John,
No way can I give OZZ a run for his money. He left the starting gate a year before I showed up at the track. He has done many very nice upgrades.
Bob and Sharon - corrections made - Reference the grounding I am working that now because I have RF in the shack. I have always used a counterpoise but since this is a different tuner and different location I am looking at grounding it to the water pipe to remove some of the RF. One of my fears is the grounds keepers mowing my counterpoise.
