Fuel prices part duex

Many of us have had several months now to digest the fuel prices after a few trips. We just got back from just a shade under a month out down in Texas and Oklahoma. On average, a $100 dollar bill got us around 19 gallons which equates to about 190 miles pulling ... with this insane wind we're having ... 10 mpg was only on the better days. A 2200-mile trip rang up over $1100.00 just in fuel. Unlike some of you that vowed to travel unbridled mightily onward when I first posted about fuel prices a few months back ... for us, multiple long haul trips this year just isn't going to happen. Granted, I saved and scrimped for years while working so I could travel and see what I wanted in retirement ... but this last trip has just bummed us out. I'm aware that some of you are and have been paying well over $5.29/gal. I'll hope for a little more in the responses past "well what else are you planning to do except park it".

Hard to believe that a little over a year ago we paid $1.99 at Sam’s in Florida. It would be one thing if this was just impacting fuel, but everything has gone up, if you can get it. Right now we are keeping this year’s plans but next year was Alaska. 15,000 miles at those fuel prices will put us way over budget.

I'm still currently working 3 weeks on and 3 weeks off, so we have been going out for 2 weeks every 6 weeks. All of our trips so far have only been between 2 and 2 1/2 hours away but have one 6 1/2 hour trip planned out and reserved through late October. We've been taking the shorter trips so that we can still get out and enjoy our MHC. The DW has really been belly aching each time when she comes back from the grocery store. Seems like everything has gotten insanely expensive in the last couple of years. Hopefully by the time I can retire in about 3 years things will have gotten back to something that resembles "normal". I'm not gonna hold my breath on that aspect though.....
Happy camping folks

$6+ bucks a gallon here in PA. The trip out west to Montana this year was cancelled because of the diesel fuel costs. Sad times. Hopefully things get under control before long and settle back down.

I can plan on about .50 a mile for fuel in my motor home or Montana. One gets 8 the other gets 10 MPG but it’s still .50 per mile.

I don't see much change in prices this year. The impact will vary quite a bit based on your personal finances. You will likely see more rigs on the market.

My grandfather in law traveled the U.S. extensively way back when. They had a map on the wall that highlighted the route they took on a trip all the way around the country. One of the things he said about RVing is to take your time. Stay longer in places instead of racking up miles in a hurry. Also instead of going back and forth from home to vacation spot back home, go to vacation spot to vacation spot.

We have a trip coming soon to CA. I'll have to buy a tank of fuel there. Not looking forward to that purchase for one, the cost. For two, the tax money they'll collect from me. But, we're going to do it, suck it up, and have a great time.

Currently have two trips planned this year.. our usual two trips to YNP... The overall distance is 720 miles round trip

That's roughly 1450 miles for both trips to and from not to include our daily excursions into YNP for two weeks at a time

We add another trip down to Vegas in November...

We've been paying well over $5 since January here in Idaho and current prices will average $5.79

The fuel prices most likely are here to stay with the push for electric autos and Ford and Chevy with their 1/2 ton electric trucks soon...

RVing cost will most likely continue to climb .. cost of the RV park stays out this way have steadily increased each year... What was $60 a night is now $110 a night for us in West Yellowstone...

Its come down to either you can afford to pay it or you sell the RV and truck and sit home and grow old..

We choose to afford it... for now

In 2014 when we did Alaska, at one fuel stop I paid $1.99 Canadian per Liter, but we continued on.

I don't understand the price jumps. I think in AZ it has gone up around 30-50 cents in about a month. Isn't it supposed to drop this time of year due to heating oil being done? What gives?

The gas/oil industry has always used every opportunity to Jack up prices. It got to be pretty funny watching the pump prices jump up before every holiday in Florida. So, we are traveling as usual this year...we are full time live-a-boards...and we are going to sell our Montana sometime afterwards. We have reached our point of tolerance after 10 plus years of full timing. Hope all the new RV'rs can enjoy the lifestyle like we did.

We don’t have anymore trips planed this year, planning for next year and probably head to Davenport FL where our other RV time share is at. Only cost us 10bucks a day and that helps off set the fuel cost.

When we went to Navarre beach FL it cost 390 bucks in fuel for 860 there and back, also includes driving around town

Was $6.99 downtown Philadelphia on April 27 2022.
Not sure how much it has gone up at this station since then.

Update: it is now $7.99. 5/11/22

I just wonder how long before some of the Delivery Trucks, both short and long haul start parking because fuel cost more than they can make driving them.

Diesel was $5.39 in Denver this morning. We still plan to travel, but it will be close in.

The high prices are supposed to be the result of a shortage due to not getting any from Russia because of their invasion of Ukraine. That seems to make sense except that I don't actually see any shortage at the pumps like we did back in the 70's with line ups and closed stations. Methinks there is another massive lie afoot. Anyway, this is a case of the oil companies shooting themselves in the foot because I for one will be moving away from oil products as fast as I can and moving toward electric and hydrogen power. The planned new truck purchase this year would be idiotic on my part in light of fuel prices. My retirement plans are going to have to change and will not include rving or perhaps not even travel. We need to thank our respective federal governments(I'm Canadian) for all their support and direction. Yes, I'm ticked off!

I don’t see anything our governments can do about the price of fuel with the world prices of crude at over $100 per barrel.

Oil prices have been there before, yet retail in Canada was around 1.20 /litre. Diesel was usually slightly lower than gas. Now diesel in Canada is around 2.40/litre.
