Is the bedroom tv backer steel? How thick do you think?

Pretty sure they are wood not steel. And I would guess 2X? Material

Steel tv backer?
Normally I would say of course it is wood but I think I heard on YouTube that if you run a magnet across the area you will detect the backer. I did and the magnet sticks to the wall in about a 24 inch square area! I just have not seen the steel backer confirmed anywhere else but I;ll drill a pilot hole today and find out once and for all.
