Entrance doors

I just walked out of the front door of my 3750, and the wind grabbed it. I think it would be nice if one of the doors would open from opposite side so you could open the door against the wind

My buddies SOB door came with a entry door that has a strut/shock system and when the door opens it stops that from happening when the wind catches it ,then the next year of that model they stopped doing it and put a regular door back on we don't know why, but it was a cool idea

It seems to me that if they put 2 doors on a unit they could hinge them on opposite sides, the 3850 has one right hand and one left hand door, but they both open from rear of rig so if you face north and have a brisk south wind you have to hang onto the door

The way they do it now is less expensive...the reason they do many things they do. Follow the money.

On the way down to Florida, stopped in a rest stop, opened the door to get a soda, wind caught the door with key in the lock, slammed up against the side of the fier, broke the key off in the lock and broke the plastic latch for keeping it open. Happened in a split second.

I have seen the wind catch all kind of RV doors. I guess the reason they are hinged is to keep them closed if they come I latched driving down the road. My front door has a gas strut on top to help hold it, but I worry the Texas wind will cause it to warp

The strut on our 3800RE door tore loose from the top the day after we took delivery from Camping World of Southern Alabama. I didn't know if this was a Keystone installed strut or whether Camping World was the installer...so I fixed it. The bracket over the door frame was secured with the small screws that are used in other places on the montana...an 8/32...and this is not up to the task for this application. I had nice, larger than normal holes in the monty from the strut ripping the bracket off the rig. Had to use BIG screws and drill out the holes in the bracket to make things work. And it wasn't windy at all that day... John

I installed a strut on the rear door. The parts from Mr. Keystone were cheap and the install was easy.

Fellow MOCers... Ray and Coleen Lustick have a front door with struts. 2 years ago in Wyoming they stopped at a pull-off to use the trailer facilities. The wind grabbed the door and it blew shut and they were trapped. Something broke and it took them quite a while to get themselves out. Broke several utensils and Ray's back is still being cared for.

Struts are nice. But, I think I would rather not, thank you.

I believe they wrote about it on here, too. I will see if I can find and report back here.

The new ones are now coming with a friction hinge. They stay where you put them even in mild wind. Strong winds move them, but slower.

Hey Larry, what's mold winds? We must not have that here in Nebraska, just the tornadic, straight line and cold a h-ll coming out of the north! Oh I forgot the fragrant ones that come off the cattle lots too!

Sorry, I meant mild. Where is spell checker when you need it?
