need some moral support

I don't mean to throw in a sad thread, but we need some moral support from our MOC family.

Our baby Oreo kitty has started having massive grand mall seizures, and we have decided it is time to have her put down. This is very hard for us since out of all of the pets we have ever had, she is the only one that Karen or I have brought home. We have had her since July 4, 1984 and she is part of the family. She just went to the vet last week and was pronounced in exellent health for being 22 years old. The next day she started having petit mall seizures, but seemed to be okay. This last Friday, she was lying on the back of the sofa and started to get up to beg for some steak, she collapsed and fell off of the sofa and seized for about five minutes. It was horrible that we couldn't do anything for her but pet her and tell her we loved her. She had another one late this afternoon that was even worse.

We are sitting here crying uncontrollably. Amazing how pets do that to us.

Thanks for letting us vent.

Gary and Karen,

I'm so sorry, there is nothing worse than having to put your baby down. I don't care how you justify the need it's still very painful. Our pets become our family, especially before and after kids and it hurts so badly. I've had to put three of our dogs down over the years and there is no easy way of coming to grips with it. I feel so bad for you and there simply are no words.

We understand your grief and are so sad for the illness of your kitty. Glad you could share and lighten your burden a little among friends. How wonderful to have a beautiful pet for so long. How much you will miss her but I'm sure there are many wonderful memories.

We understand you feelings. 2 years ago we had to put our cat down (23 years old) because of kidney failure. We stayed with her and held her while the vet gave her the shot and she simply went to sleep. We felt bad but we know in our hearts that we ended her suffering. We miss her but have wonderful memories. Sometimes you just have to do the hard things because it's the right thing to do.

Thank you all very much. It is really amazing how our pets become so intertwined in our lives. She is resting comfortably right now, she made it through the night okay. We are just waiting for the vet to open so can see if we can get her in today. Thanks again for the moral support.

Gary and Karen,

I am so sorry that you are having to make this decision. It is a gift that we can give to our loyal family memebers. We too have had to make this decision twice in the last year. Once for an older cat that was 22 and then for a 1.5 year old.

When the time is right find a new pet to fill your life with new memeories.

Prayers are with you.

We understand and share you lose. We had to put down our Tipper last month becasue she has leukemia. We get very attached to our pets and they get attached to us. The only difference between our pets and our kids is we can't (legally) claim our pets on our 1040s. We're glad that you had the blessing of having her for 22 years!

Thanks again so very much for letting us share our grief. She is in the flower garden where she always liked to lay in the summer. She has her kitty treats and her towel she used as her bed. It's going to be a long time before we can love another pet as much as we did her. Thank you all again.

Gary and Karen,

I wanted to post this last evening for you, but my internet connection was so poor I could not get it to load, today, I am in better net place, so, this is for you!!!

Rainbow Bridge
Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to some-
one here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows
and hills for all our special friends so they can run and
play together. There is plenty of food, water, and sunshine
and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who have been ill and old are restored to health
and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong
again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times
gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small
thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be
left behind. They all run and play together, but the day comes when
one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are
intent; his eager body begins to quiver. Suddenly, he begins to run
from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him
faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend
finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to
be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your
hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more
into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your
life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together...

This is Oreo. This picture was taken just before we began FT last year. I just wanted everyone to see her.

Carol, Thanks so much for Rainbow Bridge. Karen and I absolutely loved it. Thanks again everyone for being so kind.

This whole thread has sure brought back memories for me as I've gone through this with two pets. You just think there is no way you will recover and then peace comes knowing that you've done the unselfish thing and put the pet's needs before our own. It sounds like Oreo had a wonderful "family" for many years!

God be with you both. I have two wonderful goldens waiting on the other side of the rainbow bridge and I know they are having a great time in pet heaven. Lots of treats and hugs! Thanks for sharing your loss with us and know we are thinking about you. Kim

Gary & Karen, Just looked at the picture of your Oreo ( beautiful ) and it is really quite amazing how very much she looks like our cat Casey that we lost a few years ago.

We understand your grief, If you look around you will find that if it wasn't for our pets many of us would be staying in nice hotels and condo's while traveling, We bought our rig to keep our pet with us.
You have to remember that you gave your pet many years of a great life, she wasn't loose on the street searching for her next meal and you took her to the vet for care when she needed it. SO Lay her down and let her SLEEP, she earned her rest in the arms of your love.
