DuoForm slideout skis

Decided to start new thread on this! It seems Duoform used to include butyl tape, but now doesn't but i guess I can buy some. My question is this: When I place the tape on side of the ski away from the slide edge, does the weight of the slide 'smush' the tape flatter as the slide goes in and out? Just wondering how close to the edge of the ski should I place the tape?
Thanks everyone.

If I remember correctly, I used butyl tape on the side of the slide under the trim piece. They provided double sided tape that went between the slide ski and the bottom of the slide, close to the inside edge of the sli.

The tape they give you will squeeze down some wont effect how the slide goes in.you can put it fairly close to the edge with no problem. I had some of there tape not hold it to the bottom so I bought some gorilla two sided heavy duty tape which held it up just fine. I also had to get my own butyl tape for the side

Dhuhn, I am a little confused about butyl tape. Some places it is listed as putty tape and others just butyl tape. So is it sort of a thin layer of putty like stuff that sticks very well?? Thanks.

Your butyl tape is more for gasket to seal where your screws go into the side , you don’t want to use it for holding up the skis it’s not strong enough .

I bought the generic brand on Amazon and it comes with the butyl tape and it is double wide so it covers both surfaces. When you remove the side trim to install the ski you should notice that it has butyl tape that must be removed. The new tape is to seal the screw holes when you remount the side trim. As there are no screw holes on the bottom there is no need for butyl there

What about urthane

This is just my 2 cents worth. The RV industry keeps it's self in the 1960. I believe there are many products available to the industry they have refused to embrace. I have rebuilt numerous vintage campers and started using polyurethane caulk instead of butal tape. Flexibility is 50% plus and almost never fails. The other disappointing item in the industry is their refusal to develop a waterproof floor. They are out there. We use waterproof floor in all out home remodels after hurricanes. It seems floor failure and window leakage are the most preventable items in the industry. Please get with this century.
