atic mushroom cap,vent
well as we were measuring for ac covers I found out that attic mushroom cap has broken. we have ordered one from a keystone dealer our trailer is a 2013 3100 RL ,my question is is there more than one attic vent?. should I replace them all if more than one vent. I did not see any more than one the brochure only shows one.
Bob and Liz
P.S. I did read the old posts and found out a little info but did not find my answer

There are two mushroom vents. One at the very front and a second at the very rear of the RV.
They are readily available from Amazon, Walmart, etc. Here is a link to a $14.95 one at Amazon. Clicky

My 2007 has two. Old ones were looking chalky and brittle a few years ago. Bought new ones. Old bases still looked good. Rather than remove the bases and associated caulking, I removed just the old mushroom caps and installed the new caps from the two new ones I bought. I did reseal all around the old bases with new dicor.

I have 3 on my 2014 HC. Lost the top of one but could not find the exact same one. So bought one and had to replace the whole thing. Easy to do but would have rather bought just the snap on top. Trekwood is where I got mine but shipping cost me more than the part.

Are you talking about the smaller plumbing vents? Or the larger attic vents. My plumbing vents have snap on caps. But my attic vents have caps with a center screw that screws into the bases.

They are the mushroom attic plumbing vents. Mine snap in as well. All I know as I have three.

I replaced mine last year because they did not look to be good shape (saved the old ones for spares in case one blows off or something). You can by just the cap. The caps on my unit screwed on.

If you get some white paint or color of choice that is for plastic, and spray those plastic caps they will hold up a lot longer from the sun.

I painted my new ones white as suggested by jsmitfl. Paint protects plastic from degrading as a result of uv rays. Still perfect after 2+ years.

I have 3 vents for the tanks but no attic vents. Why would that be? Is it something i should add? How does it vent the attic by just putting a hole in the roof with no other vent to draw in fresh air as a softet vent in a home would do.

Surprised you do not have them. I thought they were standard, but I have been wrong before. I can only guess the venting occurs due to the "breathing" related to the heating and cooling of the roof/attic area during the day/night. Seems the attic insulation might absorb moisture from the inside over time if there were no venting at all. Maybe not.
Here is what they look like under that mushroom cap. Notice they have an extra "lip" that goes toward the front to keep rain water from blowing under when driving.

Montana has always (at least sine 2002) had the two mushroom attic vents. The Mountaineer didn't have them. That is one of many distinguishing differences between the two brands. I don't know if the HC has them.

Is this something i should look at doing?. I dont seem to have any problems but here in the florida sun and heat it might be a good thing.

Since the Mountaineers do not have the vents, as Carl said, and no one has ever said that was a problem, I would say it is not worth the risk of cutting new holes in the roof to add them.

Mushroom vent covers
As BB_ TX states you can purchase and screw the cover onto the existing stud. These plastic covers will dissinagrate over time. Do not need to change out the whole vent.

carl n susan, thank you for telling me the correct term for "mushroom vents" (they look like mushrooms). We had a water leak in our rear LR. CW advised us we lost the top to the "air vent". CW replaced the top, no more leaks. I replied to a previous post on the forum about our water leak & called it an "air vent" which was a questionable term. Hey ya'll it's a mushroom vent.

Oh, and by the way, put a little bit of silicon caulk in the hole on the new cap to prevent them from coming unscrewed it travel.
