I think if you can get a blinking light that would be more noticeable, but then all this would only work if the crook used the door and the invasion was at dark and you were awake. I'm guessing a 24/7 system would be better. What about the cargo doors and windows? I think a crook would be more likely try to break in by not using something so obvious like the door and might just want to fence what they find in the storage areas. Not that I'm experienced in how a crook thinks.
Wait, you're in Texas. Wouldn't a rigged 12 gauge aimed at the door cost less than a blinking light. Oh, maybe not a good idea if you went to check the trailer and "forgot".
It's nice you are that close by! There can be all kinds of anti-theft ideas from lights to installing a system that calls your house or cellphone, but these need power and a guaranteed power source. For example, are your rig's batteries being charged and conditioned continuously? I think you should seek a 24/7 system that notifies you otherwise you are watching the storage unit as it gets dark and you don't fall asleep.
