Weather alert radio?

I know that some of you have these weather alerts can you share with me what brand and where you bought it? Are you happy with yours? We are looking for one but are kinda lost in the midst of this search as to what to look for.Do you really have to program the code in for every county where you are traveling/camping? Seems like that would be a good thing for the GPS' to be able to display. Thanks for any information you can give us.

I believe that Radio Shack brand was the consensus of the discussion that just took place on this issue. Also a Midland brand was mentioned. I suspect that any large department type store or a WalMart or CostCo might have something that would fit your needs. I suspect that you can buy a radio that might already have everything programmed.

Good luck.

Here is a web link that has models from $40. to $80.00. It also discusses S.A.M.E. (Specific Area Message Encoding). Weather Radio Store If nothing else this page should help you find questions to ask if you by from a different store. I have no link commercially,I just did a search and found it since it is a subject of interest to me too.

Radio Shack Weather Radio Page
Midland Weather Radios

Hope this helps

Ours is a Midland and we bought it at Radio Shack.

You can enter a county code, multiple county codes, or just choose "any" and not enter anything, ever. The county codes are just so you won't get awakened by an alarm for a flash flood watch two counties over. The county code is simple and you can download a full set for all the US. Also, it will automatically find the weather station, or you can choose the station through the menu.

We used to have an alert radio where I could program what kinds of alerts I wnated to hear and block the rest. But it was smarter than me and I never could get it to work right (never sounded an alert) so I trashed it and bought this simpler one.

Sue that is exactly what happened to us. We had one (from Radio Shack)and it would go off in the middle of the night for no apparent reason. We swore we would do better with the next one that we purchased. I appreciate the help you folks have given and will check out those sites, too. Thanks so much.
