Under refrigerator storage

I have a 2007 3400 RL. I know someone smarter than me modified the panel under the refrigerator by adding some hinges and some type of latch for additional storage. I was unable to find it by using the search feature. Thanks for the help!

Some MOCer's have knocked the panels out under the fridge & stove. Picked up a pc of Oak lumber 3/4 by 6" or 8" . cut it to length, stain it add some hinges, latches & pulls. they turn out really nice, here's a link showing one.

Johnny on the 3400 you don't have to make a door. The cover has four screws (one in each corner), remove them, the cover comes loose, attach two self closing hinges to the bottom. Plug holes where the screws were or cut off the screws and put them back in. You are done! The self closing hinges keep it closed so you don't need a latch. We've traveled many miles and many rough roads since we did ours and have not had a problem. There is a lot of storage space down there.

As an addition to Parrotheads post, when you cut off the screws and leave them inserted, it also makes it sort of a safe! If someone broke into your unit they usually don't take time to see if there is anything behind screws.

I did the same thing to the cover of the hot water bypass compartment.

It's the same compartment where the furnace is located. It's in the living room on the right side of the fireplace. This is where I have access to the water heater bypass valve.

Do you mean that louvered cover that says something about winterizing beside it? What is the purpose of the hot water heater bypass? We will never winterize so do we need to know?

That's the one. It says Freeze Guard Winterizing System. The hot water bypass is used when winterizing the trailer and prevents the antifreeze from going to the hot water heater. If you don't winterize like I do every year you don't have to worry about it. It's good to know where it in case someday you have the need to use it. It is located on the top left hand corner of the compartment.

Thanks Lou. I thought once about taking all that stuff out and gain some storage but it might make a difference some day when we trade or sell. Is there a reason why this cover is louvered? Could it be replaced with a wood cover?

The cover is louvered because it's the return air for your furnace. You need that in place just like it is.

No the return air for the furnance is on the kitchen side. This one is on the living room side.

I looked at how Ozz did his, then went home and did the same to ours. Ozz cut the screws for me so the original screws are still in there. They just don't go all the way through.
