Mark-N, I looked a the Anderson hitch and must partly agree with you. My problem with it is it limits your ability to tow anything but your own rig. However if your truck is for some reason disabled I would assume you could remove the attachment at the pin and it could be towed by a standard hitch? I live in Lave Havasu City Az a very big boating lake, at least 2 or 3 times a year we read about large 35 foot+ boats braking loose from trucks. I see campers and utility trailers off the side of the road that got away from the tow vehicle. But we all have our ideas of what we like and how we do things. My point was for me I want a pasive safety system. I know my short commings (very impatient) so I like to idiot prof whatever I can. JMHO
I'm like you: Keep it simple and keep it safe. You are right, the adapter on my king pin is removable with just 2 bolts should anyone but me need to tow my trailer. My dealership has never needed to do this however. I'm not sure how they adapt to the fork-lift they use to move rigs around. But yeah, I can pull the adapter off in about 3 minutes if I ever need to.

I love this Anderson hitch not only because of its light one-man liftable weight, but also because it is so safe.
The hook-unhook motion is a lift or lower motion onto and off of the adapter. Not a forward and backward motion like a normal 5th-wheel hitch is. That in a nutshell, is why it can't come off the truck without the legs lifting it off and back on.

I made this mistake by not doing the tug test but will not do that again. I bought the last Blue Ox that fits my B&W Companion hitch on Amazon. Cheap insurance but I will continue to do the tug test as well. Hope I never have to use the Blue Ox bed saver.

Happens to the best of us and I did it to my old truck. $5500.00 damage to Truck. Sue and I pull test, each and every time!

Mark ... I have an Andersen. If you put the pins in the wrong hole you will have the full hitch come off the back of the truck.
