ac shroud bites it
Took the rear ac shroud off for cleaning. Noticed some cracks and the rear of it came apart in my hand. I was careful knowing it was pretty thin plastic...but hey...got three years out of it! Found new on on appliancezone.com so life is good. Was smelling mold when ac came on, inside of cover was green with some black. Ac pan had some. Cleaned with bleach and water in spray bottle and shop towels. Front ac had mold as well, but cover is thicker and hangng in. Just thought I would remind you to pull them and clean. John

Thanks for the reminder.
I suspect not many of us pull the shroud unless there is a problem.

There should be a couple of condensation drain holes in the pans of each A/C. Make sure they aren't plugged. If you don't have any, with the shroud off and something between the pan and rubber roof should you plunge thru ... drill a couple of drain holes towards the rear yourself.

X2 on the drain holes. While the run off can be irritating (leaves streaks), it's better than the mold!

I have mine serviced every year. Expensive, but with an extra vent and seven solar panels up there and me with bad knees it's worth it. Oh, did I mention there's occasionally mud dobbers in there also

I imagine my growth started with us living in sw florida for 18 months straight. Get lots of runoff since we wake up with the humidity level above 80% most days, the underside of my awning rains on me when a breeze shakes the excess moisture loose. Having a real "dry" spell now with humidity at only 68% at about 11 in the morning and in the mid 70's thanks to a front that came through. Tomorrow is supposed to be back into mid 80's...but that's better than the 90's we were having. Life in the tropics as they say. John
