Can you get 18-20 mpg towing?
Move over Ford, Chevy, Dodge; VW is here.

How about going uphill, Dick? What did you get before going downhill?

Filled with diesel up at Bryce Canyon and reset dash MPG meter and traveled down hill (locals call it "the dump") for about 15 miles to Bryce Valley KOA and got 44 MPG.

That must be the VW with the beefed up engine, not the 36 HP I had...this one might be all the way to 41 HP.

One time I got 99 MPG then like Dick said I had to go back up the mountain. Darn just ruined it.

Yesterday we got 16.3 mpg (Vicki took a picture of the computer) towing but it was only for about 40 miles, had a slight tailwind, and in that 40 miles we dropped about 1500 feet in elevation. We were enjoying the mpg and then the ground pretty much leveled out and the wind shifted. For the next 200 miles we had almost direct headwinds starting at maybe 10 mph and by the time we reached our destination the wind was running 20 to 30 mph. Dropped our overall mileage for the 250 miles to 12.1 mpg. I was happy with that but disappointed after the great start. The computer mpg on this truck checks out to read roughly 1/10 mpg optimistic. Pretty close.

I'm jealous Steve... whenever I'm towing I never seem to get a tailwind. Headwind or sidewinds, but never the tail. Maybe I should get out more and increase my odds. I get between 12 to 16 mpgs depending on the road, hills or the traffic, oh yeah, or the wind.

Yes our truck computer makes it look a bit better than it really is. Never even thought about it till Carl of Carl and Susan pointed it last year at AZ Spring Rally.
