We Need Your Opinion Please
We are looking at a 2015 3160RL, we love it for how we RV. But, on the kitchen/entertainment/fireplace slider Keystone placed an outside entertainment center that has its own awning, so this model has two awnings. Ok so far, BUT their may me no place to install an awning slider cover?! We have always had slider awning covers on our trailers. To me this could be a deal breaker. I have always felt that a little extra degree of protection to channel rain away from the slide was always a plus. Of all slide not to have this. :-(
What do you folks think, honestly please! :-)

We had a second awning mounted on our Monty but it already had the slide toppers installed. I think it really depends on how close to the top of the slide they mounted your awning. Maybe you could have the service manager look at the slide and see if it's possible. Good luck and hope you will be able to have your topper installed. Tim

We just ordered a 3160. We have had slide toppers on our last two Montana's. We decided not to have slide toppers this time because we live in a very windy area. The noise from the slide toppers in the wind is not pleasant. Best of luck with your decision.

While they do make noise when it's very windy, I wouldn't be without them. Had toppers since I installed them myself on a previous TT since we're mostly where there are trees, birds and other things that tend to dribble stuff on slide roofs and I really am not interested in having to clean them off every time I want to pull the slides in.

Another vote for the slide toppers. Living in the south it helps keep the Rv cool when parked in the sun. The sun doesn't hit right on the slide top. Also if parked under a pine tree falling pine needles can't get directly on top of slide. No topper the pine needles get on top of slide and need to be cleaned off before closing slide.
Agree they are a pain when real windy. We stay on Gulf Coast two months and a lot of Rvers throw strap over awning.

If the awning is installed above the slide, not on the slide, seems like the second awning would provide better protection than a topper when the slide is open and awning out? While we prefer to have slide toppers, there are certainly plenty of rigs around without them that do just fine. Guess you could remove the awning and replace with a topper, but then without an awning, you could not use the entertainment center in the rain.

I'm with the group that wouldn't be without the slide toppers.

That issue may be something that Keystone may eventually fix. Our SOB had Dual Awnings and because of the placement of the awning on the Slide they didn't leave room to install a slide topper. Shortly after we received ours, they changed things slightly and moved the awning down slightly so there was room for the topper. Really hate getting on the roof to sweep off leaves and pine needles before pulling in that slide.

The 3160's that I looked at seemed to have plenty of room for a slide cover. The awning looked to be mounted low enough on the slide to not cause any problems. Just my observation.

Never have had slide toppers on our 2880 or our 3000RK. If I am in a park with overhanging limbs, just get on top and sweep off. Thats my cost saving measure.

Have never had slide covers for our two Montanas and not sure what the benefits might be?

I was going to order a 3160 and had the same concern. Even inquired at the factory and they said there was not enough room above the awning to mount a topper. We ordered a 3100 instead with toppers and I am going to put an awning on the door side slide somehow. I think on the 3160 they just don't want to spend the money because I ask why you only get two toppers on the 3160 but its no cheaper than the 3 on the 3100. They said the extra awning cost offsets the topper cost. Sounds like a cheap way out to me.

After receiving our unit I am pretty sure that you do not have room for a topper because of the awning. Earlier I stated that it looked like you could but I no longer feel that way.

We're debating whether to have the factory add slideout toppers to our soon-to-be-delivered 2016 High Country 353 RL. Since the HC slideouts are supposed to be sealed better than the regular ones, we wonder if it's worth the expense. Any thoughts? Thanks.

I have never had slide toppers. When new they are probably tight enough not to flop in the wind. After a few years, flopping in the wind, you might change your mind.
I look at it as one less thing to break, come loose, leak, tear, rip or ravel.

I have had them on my last two rigs and love them. Where I stay during the tax season has lots of trees and birds. As we all know leaves drop and birds poop. No way am I going to go up on the roof to clean the slide every month or so. Yes they can make some noise when it is windey and can hold some rain water. The rain water is easy to get off just run the slide in a bit and it is off. As for the leaves and poop a bit of soppy water and a long handl brush used while closing the slide works well. Again no need to get on the roof. JMHO.

I chose to not get the toppers, because the way I see it, the stuff than falls on the slides, is just going to land on the toppers and if they stick on the slide, they will stick on the topper. I figure something is going to have to be cleaned occasionally. Not to mention the noisy nights when the wind blows all night long. Besides, I've had my fill of awnings ripping and sun-rotting, and binding up in my life. Too much potential trouble with too little payback.
