Installing a hitch
I have a 2005 Montana big sky with the polar package and was wondering if anyone has added or had a hitch added and if so how was it done. Can someone send pics showing how it was mounted. I know it voids warranties but I need to be able to pull a small trailer with a golf cart on it.

I was told by Keystone if I put a hitch on my 07, to put nothing on the hitch heavier than a bike or two.

Had a welding shop put a hitch on our Montana to carry a bike rack. Installer said "don't even think about hooking anything else to this hitch". It is two 3 inch angles bolted crosswise to the I-beam frame with the receiver welded to the angles. I don't think the frame is strong enough to tow behind any Montana.

You got a '05 and question about warranties? Get real.
Your '05 has a 10" I-beam frame. Now they are 12"
I had a hitch welded up. a "H" pattern frame, bolted on with 8 1/2" bolts.
You should be able to tow a golf cart load with no issues.
This link takes you to a group of pics of the hitch I had made and have towed over 3500lbs behind my Montana.

DO NOT buy a "universal" hitch. Spend the money and get a good one built. BOLT IT ON, do NOT weld it on. A good hitch will cost around $500.

I've had this hitch on my last 2 Montana's. I wire fed it together and bolted it to the frame with six 1/2" bolts. It's built hell for stout and has towed a double jet-ski trailer and now my current squirt boat for years ... either weighing around 2000#. The staff on top is a Reese double bike rack I modified and welded on top of the tongue. You'll get a lot of pushback on the MOC for double towing, as there are a lot of full / long timers on here that hold different ideals on what you should do with your Monty. I think it actually makes the frame a bit more solid in back as it ties both I-beams together more so than the OEM flimsy wire rod cross beams.

You have heard what Montana thinks of putting a hitch on your camper and that others have done it successfully. Montana built and designed the camper. Now the choice is yours. It's your camper.

My 2010 2955RL came with a Montana Rear Accessory Hitch from the factory.
it is however only a 1.25 receiver and good only for a bike rack or such.

Hi
Keystone engineering is very poor and I don’t think much of Lippert’s either.
Stick with dieselguy he got it correct. The I beam type of constriction requires the I beam to reaming straight up and down to maintain its strength dieselguys unit does this so you have all the I beam can give you.
Phil P
PS: dieselguy if you get to Florida I really need a good welder it has been 50 years sense I did any stick welding and tried a little a few days ago and would need to spend a week practicing to get back where I was 50 years ago. LOL
