Entry Door no longer closes

I have a 2018.5 3791RD that has developed "ENTRY DOOR closing problems". The entry door severely drags on the Mor-ryde steps when steps are down after setting up camp. The legs on the steps ARE adjusted for required height at every campsite.*(Note... the unit is perfectly level {per bubble leveler} when I drop the steps and door still will not close)
The steps also do not retract all the way up as you can see from the pics when vertical. Have the pneumatic cylinders gone bad regarding the retracting issue?
Any ideas on what is causing these issues?

Michael,

Adjust your legs in further so they just barely the ground when the ladder is down. If that doesn't do it you likely have an issue where the ladder hinges just inside the rig.

Look at my crude sketch. Pull/remove or push the pin out of the side rail and adjust each leg so that the step top is below the door threshold. The pin has a little spring-loaded stainless steel ball on it that keeps it in place. Sometimes mine comes out easily...sometimes it takes some effort.

Thanks Zack and Mike!
I do adjust the legs at every camp site to the lowest possible level to where the inside of steps are almost touching the lower outside side panel wall. (In fact I have already scratched the paint from lowering too much.) But the steps still do not sit flush to door jam. Note the door jam gap showing in first pic when steps are let down.

Sounds like either the hinge or the mount has a problem. Maybe pulled loose from the floor, has something caught in it, or just broken. Have not seen the problem before.

Sounds and looks like what happened to Friends. Someone was looking at them a started lifting the steps with the door closed. Result the hinge section was bent. Happened while MORryde was still on site and got them replaced.

The first picture tells me that the mounting bracket is either loose or 'sprung'(bent). We added the LCI Step Above system and the supplied screws were much too light in diameter and short. I replaced them with as big diameter as would fit the existing mounting holes and somewhat longer. If it happens again, I'll use a couple carriage bolts/nuts all the way through the floor.

Door rubbing on steps

I've had the same issue and there can be another issue that can arise that I don't know a good answer for. If you are at a campsite that is so far out of level that you have to put that side of the rig up on blocks to level it then you have to pull out all the adjustment on the steps and to make them even close to level the threshold is definitely raised up to high for the door to close. The answer? I don't know other than to not have the steps level.
I've also been camping where one time the door closes fine and another time it rubs on the steps with the same adjustment on the steps. It's like they are bending or something. Very frustrating.

Sometimes I have to dig a little from under the legs so the door can close. I also had to drill new holes in the adjustable legs to allow them to go up into the sides further.

Entry door

I had same problem. It is bent. You need to bent it back so when steps are down the are flush with the threshold

What you have done is put weight on the steps with the legs not touching the ground. This bent the steps in the door area. To correct, shut the door with the steps down, then lift the steps thus bending the step to its original position.

Morryde Steps problem

I had the same problem also. The issue is that there is a weak point on the Morryde steps at the hinge point. I can see from your pictures that your stairs are bending at the exact point mine did - where the hinges attach to the stair stringers.

They are easily bent if you don't have the legs extended to the right length. You can bend them back to the proper angle and the door will close, but you'll have a recurring problem where the bending is happening - the weak point - it will continue to bend (and it's probably cracking) until it is reinforced.

You should also check the rivets on the side where the hinge assembly attaches to the stair stringers. they also break easily which will make the bending worse. I replaced all of mine with stainless steel (much stronger than the aluminum)
I welded a steel angle across the front of the hinge assembly tying both sides together and strengthening the entire thing. It doesn't bend or flex anymore. I am attaching pictures - I hope, as this is my first posted reply.
Hope this helps. Mark

Thanks to all that have responded. I will try to straighten and reinforce before swapping out to the "Glowstep" scissor steps.

It almost looks like the original steps are just a little too deep to allow the new step from settling down fully. Or perhaps a trick of the camera angle.

This happens when you raise the jacks to lower
the unit and the steps are still down. It will put
Pressure on the steps and bend the bracket at
door

Did the install instructions not tell you to remove the threshold? I had the same issue until I read the instructions and removed it

Where did you see that?

Step ! only says to remove the transition piece at the threshold between the floor and the door frame. Step 4 says you might have to notch some wood and shows a photo of the threshold in place. A You Tube video plus the on line pdf will show that

While I have no "dog in the hunt" with the LCI version would never remove that strengthening piece that holds the door frame squarely in position.

We had a similar issue. Called Moryde and they said the threshold piece had gotten bent. They sent us a new one for free.

Route66Rambler, do you happen to remember who you spoke to exactly? Were they in "aftermarket" parts?
