GoodYear Tire
IJavascript :insertsmilie(' ') just noticed on my front passenger side trailer tire, on my 2955 Montana, that I'm getting irregular wear. I always check the tire pressure before trips. All the other tires seem to be doing fine. I do notice when I make a turn the tire seems to be angled differently then the rear. I'm in the market for some new tires - any recommendations?

Consider the Bridgestone Duravis 500 HD
Excellent tire.

You might also get the axle alignment or suspension checked out before getting new tires. I do see how the axles get torqued in all kinds of seemingly unusual directions on turns but I would not be able to eyeball what's good or bad.
However, if you get irregular or uneven wear on your tires, more times than not, this is occurring on the much more frequent forward tow. Just replacing the tires to get rid of these tires without ensuring the axles/suspension are sound might mean you are gonna be replacing tires too soon once again.
Just my thoughts when you mentioned irregular wear. If the wear was even on all tires then replacing tires will happen from normal wear. Any mention of irregular or unusual wear is suspect. It could be the tire but I would certainly want to know for sure.

If it is just one tire and the tire seems to bulge along tread , you probably have a broken belt. We are happy with our G614s.

Many have. There was a point where the wheel mfg. gave their blessing, then pulled back from it because they did not have any usable molds to make a wheel to be tested.
I opted to go with the new stronger higher rated wheel, but mine were crappy looking as well as old and 80# rated.
You will get no official OK on it, if it were me, if you can swing it, get the new 110# wheels. Kind of a dilemma.

Agree with Art...determine what is causing the irregular wear before spending money on new tires that might also wear badly...as Art pointed out.

I had a similar problem after I had the MorRyde IS installed by MorRyde in Elkhart, IN. I had one tire wearing badly. I stopped in OKC and had the alignment checked at a truck alignment shop recommended by MorRyde. They found the alignment to be correct and suggested a new tire. After replacing the tire, no problems with excessive tire wear. Point being: Sometimes it can be the alignment and sometimes you just get a bad tire, BUT I would get the alignment checked first and have a pro look at the suspension before replacing one tire.....If you don't, you could be throwing good money after bad.....

Stupid Question? My "04" Montana has the original Tacoma tires on it (sits at the lake 90% of the time in the Texas heat) we are going to Lake Powell in September and I need to replace the tires, I see that a lot of the reccomended tires are standard SUV/truck tires my question is do you have to put (TRAILER) tires on your 5ver or can you use standard radial tires?
Thanks

My tire shop advised that most trailer axles can't be aligned.

Countslur, the angle difference of the tires during a turn is normal. It's is very disconcerting, however, especially in a tight turn like when pulling into or backing into a site. You have to drive a few yards straight before they fully return to normal position, too. But that's nothing to do with your tire wear. Likely you have an out of alignment axle or a problem with the spindle, like after hitting a curb really hard. Good luck with it. Many of us have fought axle problems. We finally went to heavier axles, like they started putting on our model 3 months after we took delivery.

Those Tacoma's are LT tires and were very good compared to the later tires used. Lonnie, the tire guy here on the MOC, recommends several different brands of LT tires to replace what you have. The LTs meet the weight requirement for your rig and have proven to be a successful alternatives to using ST tires.
A "Search" should locate one of the many posting where Lonnie provided a list of recommended LT tires.

I might note that the Goodyear G614 tires many of us have gone to are LT tires. But they say on the sidewall they are for trailer use.
