Worst stretch of road

Came home yesterday from NY, gave this a lot of thought...

What's the worst stretch of road you've driven hauling your Monty?

We haven't traveled alot yet, but yesterday on the southern tier expressway (86), especially around Salamanca, has GOT to be in the top 10. Poor build coupled with frost heaves (I guess) make this stretch like driving thru a pasture with woodchuck holes galore. Any road that you can toss hand grenades out the window and improve the road needs fixin'........

So, where are other bad stretches ?

Send a message via Yahoo to NCFischers
There is a bridge on the bypass around Richmond, Va. that causes harmonics with the truck and trailer that will shake and bake everything in the trailer by the time you cross it.

I have two top roads.
1 - Two years ago the by pass around Oklahoma City was the roughest interstate I have ever been on. loaded with broken up road and pot holes. Bumper to bumper and traveling fast! I expected the 5er or truck to break in half at any second. Nothing broke, but never again.
2 - I 95 from north of Baltimore to way south of Washington. This past Dec. we spent 5 hours going less than 10 mph or completely stopped because of traffic. On a weekend! Never again.

Taylor Highway Alaska from the Yukon boarder to Chicken Alaska!!!

Forty nine miles of potholes, gravel, dust and narrow. Top speed for most of it is about 10 mph!!

We passed through Louisiana back in April and there are some stretches of I-10 with really bad expansion joints but, I think there are worst stretches of I-10 in California than in Louisiana.

I-10 in LA. You feel like a yo-yo driving down the interstate.

Wow! We totally agree with NCFischers about the Richmond bypass! We hit that area north bound last May and I thought the bucking was going to break the 5er loose! I had problems with more than one bridge there near the south end of it. Did not seem as bad going south bound, but perhaps I was ready for it.

Top of the World Highway in Alaska.. Took us 8 hrs to go 100 miles... Hwy 10 in Louisanna and many places on I-35 that are either full of pot holes or under repair.

Interstate 59 from Fort Payne Ala for 50 to 70 miles. Like a concrete washboard.

We used to think it was Pennsylvania's roads -- we'd say people could live in those potholes. Well, now we think it's California. We both grew up in California and were always proud of our roads and highways. I guess with the extreme budget crisis the roads were the first to go. Driving up Interstate 5 not only rattles the truck and 5er but the spines. Maybe if we all hold our breath and cross our fingers the economy will get better and we can have good roads once again! We can only hope . . .

Route 495 (North or South) in Massachusetts. It is a loop highway around the Boston area that takes you to New Hampshire/Maine on the North End and onto Cape Cod at the South end. The stretch in the middle of the loop has terrible bridges that will just about send you airborne if you hit them at highway speeds. The road itself is pretty good but those bridges are the worst.

Rte. 40 in Arkansas was about the worst we’ve been on when towing a camper. It was a few years ago and it wasn’t the Monty but another brand. It may be fixed by now but it was a terrible road with very rough seams every few feet. At that time we even got on a 2 lane road for a while just to avoid it.

I-10 West bound going into New Orleans on the East side. Pulling the Monty I slowed down to 25 mph and still yo-yo'd. I thought the trailer would dump everything out of the cabinets.

I-30 in LA and ditto on I-86 in NY. I am curious to see what I-86 will be like now that I have put shocks on the TT. We will be going that way in July on the way to Nova Scotia.
