Cripple Creek

Has anyone camped in Cripple Creek, CO? If so, can you offer any suggestions on the best route, and acceptable campgrounds?
Thanks

Leev,

Welcome to Colorado. As far as the route, you HAVE to come in from the north on highway 67 from Divide, west of Colorado Springs on highway 24. DO NOT try to come in from the south via Canon City! It would be a tight squeeze for the Monty as shown below .

The south road still uses the old railroad tunnels and is gravel.

There are only a couple of campgrounds in the town, neither are 5 star, maybe not even 2 star, but the Eagles Landing RV park has full hookups and is within walking distance to the Casinos

If you don't mind staying a little ways out of town, Meuller State Park is north of Cripple Creek up by Divide (electric only) and is the highest rated state park in Colorado. It's about a 20 minute drive to Cripple Creek.

Be sure and check out the surroundings - it is beautiful country around there. Here is a link to our last trip.

Thanks for the information and replies. We looked at your pictures. We took advice from a local in Salida and used Hwy 50 East and then Hwy 9 North. Then we got CR 11, intersected with CR l, and 5 miles NE of Cripple Creek is KOA. It was steep and full of curves. It would be ok in a vehicle, but hard to do with 5th wheel. We pull a 3475 Monty with a Dodge 1 ton. There is a KOA campground that boasts of being the highest KOA in the world. It's been a good spot to stay and near many activities. We arrived when Cripple Creek was celebrating "Donkey Days."

We've stayed at the KOA before in Cripple Creek and we really enjoy it, the hosts are very friendly and the campground is clean.
