Camping World installations

I'm considering having Camping World install slide toppers. The local dealer wants almost $900 in labor to do the job Camping World will do it for a flat $201. The price of the toppers themselves is not all that much different (but CW does have them on sale yet this month).

Anyone have them install slide toppers and have a problem? Or, did they do a good job for you? This will be the Bolingbrook Illinois store if it matters.

Thanks

Eric

yes, we have them...and no complaints on the install. camping world has the local dealer do all the install work anyway (here at least) they don't have any seperate people that do it.

I had CW install a replacement awning material on our previous TT. They did the work themselves and did a very good job.

We had the dealer install them on our first Montana. I don't think it's all that difficult a job. I didn't have CW do it but still wanted to comment on the $900 labor. My personal opinion is that dealer is ripping you off if you pay that much. When we had the dealer order and install three toppers in January, 2001, the entire cost was right around $900 if I recall. Maybe $700. I'd have to go dig out the receipt if I still have it somewhere. I know it was not even close to $900 in labor.

it does sound really high for the little bit of work. I usually plan on $100 per hour in labor here, but I find it hard to believe that it is 9 hrs. of work.

I gotta admit that I had to catch my breath when I saw the estimate. But they allow 3 hours per slide at $89 per hour... For that kind of difference, they can go scratch!

Seems to me that once a couple of guys have done it a time or two, they should be able to knock it out pretty quick.

I suspect that I'll be calling CW to order the toppers this weekend. I'm going to go visit the rig this weekend and take a couple of measurements and part #'s. While there I'm going to be sure to let them know why they aren't getting the work order for that.

Eric -

We had our dealer install them and they did it for the same price as it would have cost from Keystone. Our dealer is Rollin' On RV in Indiana - just over the border on Route 30. It would be about another 35 - 40 miles from Bollingbrook. You might want to give them a call. If you need the number, I can get it for you. Otherwise, they have a website.

Eric if you check under "Bedroom Slide Topper Install" you will see our post about the slide toppers we ordered from Camping World. We are going to have them installed next week at the Belleville, Mi store. We know a few people who have had work done there and have been satisfied. Camping World charges $57.60 Pres Club and $64 for non members for installation. Hopefully we'll be happy with their work also.

Camping World did ours three years ago. We have had no problems other than the pidgins trying to nest under them.

Our dealer recommended that we have CW install our toppers to save money...I couldn't believe that he recommended we take our business elsewhere, but we did. CW did a great job installing and there was a deal...two slide toppers and the third one was free. No problems at all.
