Skyline Drive/Blue Ridge Pkwy.

Did a search for previous topics...no luck. Headed south for Smokies etc. in May. Can we take the rig down the parkways and have clearance? Remember discussions re. CGs off the pkwy. etc. Advice/help appreciated. Thanks.

Road the motorcycle on the Blue Ridge, what a great time 90* starting at the bottom then mid 70*s! Fuel is something else you need to plan out?

Hey Chris!
Had any s/g lately?
IMHO, use nearby better roads for towing, B/R for sight seeing. Overlooks are often small and crowded. You probably skilled enough to tow it, but it's snakes and slow, constantly up on the wheel. Campgrounds will be off B/R any way. It's a beautiful place. Your experience and patients will make it a great trip for you.
Do not!, I repeat , do not get that close to "HOOK" without letting us know!
Besides, "you'ins will need an interpreter, ya heah?
If at all possible maybe we will meet near the southe'n end!
Please let us know when you come into NC.
Maybe we might share some "shine". Mmmmm

Chris,

We pulled ours from the north side, from Front Royal south to Thornton Gap. We knew we were too tall to take it any further south, as we are 13' 3".

We had no problems sightseeing with our 5er in tow and it was in the fall. There were a few turnouts we couldn't use because of the number of cars already there.

At Thornton Gap exit is the old hotel where the Whitehouse bunker is.

I live about 10 miles from the parkway and use it regularly. It is just over Poor mountain from us and like Illini Trekker said it is a great place to ride my motorcycle. I think it is a great place to pull your camper. I take mine up there every year. It in places is fairly steep, gear down so you don't over heat your transmission. In May there wont be much traffic. It is a winding road and is slow but you wouldn't run through a museum. Some things on the parkway are closed the Peaks of Otter lodge and restaurant Bayberry's mill until June if someone to take them over can be found. Gas should not be a problem as it can be found within a few miles of the parkway. The over looks aren't a problem just don't get on one that you can't see both ends. I would say GO for it just go slow enjoy the ride and be on the look out for a guy on a Honda with a high vis green helmet on.

The good thing about s/g, according to Hook, is that you can gather it up along the road on your trip, as long as the buzzards don't beat you to it!
Have a great trip Chris
