Leaky grey water tank

I discovered a small leak (drip..drip...drip) type of leak right at the very bottom of the discharge pipe leading to the dump valve on my grey water tank. I read a repair solution on "ask.com" an Internet question forum. It advised to rough up the area with sand paper and then apply silicon caulk to the leak area ( must be bone dry of course) The first application should be allowed to "cure" for 24 hours. Then apply a second coat. Both applications should be spread with a putty knife to smooth out the caulk. Has anyone tryed this repair? I hate to replace the whole tank for such a small leak. Wondering if it's worth a try? Al Z

I believe the pipe would be ABS. My black tank cracked and I repaired it with marine epoxy. Used fiberglass mesh, placed some epoxy first, then the mesh, then more epoxy. This worked, though it did take a couple of applications.

Ozz had a post on this just a couple days ago but I can't remember where it was. You may want to PM him about it. He even had pictures of the repair.

Found it! If you look under Repairs & Service and then the heading "Rotten Urine Smell" Ozz posted pictures of repairing a leak on the second page of the replies in the past couple days. Good luck with the repair!
