Hiway 26, Seaside to Portland

Can anyone offer any suggestions on this road. My BIL wants to go north to hiway 30 then east to [s]97 then south to[/s] Portland. Seems like that is the long way around, maybe safer?

Phil isn't highway 97 in central Oregon. I was looking at S&T and 30 would be a scenic trip 26 would be a more direct trip to Portland.

Hwy 30 runs along the columbia from Astoria to Portland and hooks up with I84 east and 26 is just south of Seaside and more direct and comes in just at the southern end of Portland and you can hook up with I5 or the bypass 205 and 84East. From what you have given us I would suggest 26 as it may be an easier(on you) drive then 30

If you want to go from Seaside to Portland 26 is more direct. I have driven it (without 5er) and its hilly for sure but nothing terrible IMHO. 30 is probably a little flater but there are some long hills even on 30 around Longview.
