Fireplace Odor
As a few mornings have been a little chilly recently, I turned on the fireplace that I haven’t used for a few months. Well after it ran for 4 or 5 minuets it started spewing an unsavory odor. Does anyone have an answer for what may be causing this? This has never happened before.

Andy, it sounds like it hasn't been run in awhile and has dust on the heating element. We have had the same problem with ours several times. I just pulled the fireplace out and unscrewed the top and vacuumed the elements (carefully) and reinstalled it all. No more smells... Dave

Dust would be my guess also. We have a space heater in my den (stick house) that does this the first time I start it for the winter, then it goes away until next year.

I agree. When we first turn the furnace on in the stick house in the fall, we get the burning dust smell briefly and then it's gone.

Thanks for the replies guys, I didn't think about it but I guess it does sound reasonable that dust is the culprit. I'll assume you just pull the four screws on the front and slide the hardware out? This isn't exactly my thing. If you don't mind, a little direction would help.
Thanks,
Andy
