Hoover happenings

We were driving to the Hoover dam, the Homeland Security has a checkpoint a few miles away from the dam. There was a small white tent the officers emerged from, a temporary shelter that was surprisingly fragile. There was also a small trailer there. The officer checked all my hatches and looked inside the Monte. We talked about the nice weather there, and the miserable humidity in K.C., he has been there and doesn't want to go back...
I bet when he hired on at homeland security, he didn't foresee having to spend his shifts in a lousy tent talking to rubes like me for a living, probably something more dangerous, and James Bond like.
I thanked him for his service to our nations security, he was a little surprised, but very grateful, probably not too much gratification in the job for them way out there..
I think the temporary structure was because of the new bypass of the dam road already there, that they are constructing, a really high bridge that made me dizzy just looking at it.
Those highway construction guys have my respect.
Man, what a contrast between Grey rocks, and the dark Blue of lake Powell. The water is very low.
Sue is talking to the Wal*Mart bird outside our screen door in the tree.
We call them Wal*Mart birds because we first saw them in a Wal*Mart parking lot in Harlingen, Texas. They are medium size, Black with Yellow eyes, neat sounding songs, they are everywhere...except back home. Here's pictures:

Ozz,
Its good to see the security at the Dam. Unfortunately security is not new to that dam. If you hike up the north side there is an abandoned machine gun nest that was manned around the clock during WWII. They were afraid of Japanese planes sneeking up the canyon after what happened at Pearl Harbor.

From the water, all of the Co River dams have barricades that prevent you from getting anywhere close to the dam with a boat. I suppose the same threat applies. I used to like to fish along the dam, but I'll just have to add some more line and a heavier weight I guess.

The Bonneville Dam on the Columbia is another one that had around the clock machine gunners in concrete bunkers.
