What do you do with wasted space? - Montana Owners Club

All Rvs have some wasted space and Montanas make a better use of space than most brands but we still have some. I see that behind the slide out garbage can we have a place for something. I am thinking a little cupboard to store garbage bags and cleaning supplies.

What are some ideas that you guys have come up with? Thanks, Don.

In our 2000 3555RL there is a space of 9 1/2" between the slideout and refrigerator when the slideout is retracted. We had a bookcase built that matches the decor of the rig. It is 49" high, 26" wide, and 8 1/2" deep. It has 4 shelves of different heights. Works for us.

Don. My wife uses the same space as you recommended for extra trashcan inserts (Groceries bags).

We have a small TV in the bedroom. Glen built a shelf over it that he uses to store three pair of his large shoes.

We store fishing rods above the overhead cupboards in the bedroom.

I have added doors under the stove and the fridge. I used spring loaded hinges to keep them closed. All you have to do then is knock out the panel and use the extra space.

Wrenchtraveller, I took the slideout trashcan out, removed the door, added another drawer and replaced the door to pull out like the other doors in the pantry. I removed the lazysusan under the sink and use that space for the trash can. There is a lot of different ideas here on the forum. If you want to see how this is done, come to any of the rallys that MOC puts on. Check the rally topic for your region and the National. Keep asking for ideas, someone will get back to you.

If I even thought about touching G's trash can drawer and making something else out of it she would probably brake my fingers.

I guess when you fulltime every little bit helps. were not F Ting so we have lots of empty cabinets.

I agree with Don on this one. We just love that slideout garbage can and in all our other units the place for a garbage can was always in our way. The slideout garbage container was one of the features that drew us to the Montana.

For the lazy Susan I am thinking of getting some thin flexible plexi glass and wrapping the trays with this to give them about a 2 " lip that should keep most of the stuff in there.

The powerslide pump has two light guage wires that attach to the pump with slide on connectors. One wire is for the slide out switch and one wire is for the slide in switch.
I am going to splice a single pole switch to each of these wires and that will be my safety switch for my slides. I have already pulled the wires off the slide in connectors and that works too but if done on a regular basis , the little slide in connectors would wear out.

Wrenchtraveller let me know how that works out, especally when tring to remove the larger items. Will you have an opening/gate instead of going all the way around with the plexie.

Don, I will let you know when it's done but I was thinking a full wrap, now you have me considering that opening. I thought most items would just lift over the lip but the taller ones might need an opening. The 2980Rl like you have looks like it has quite a bit more cupboard space than our 2955RL and we both liked the idea that you can watch TV while making meals in your model also. It looks like a great floor plan.

We added doors below the oven and below the bottom desk drawer. No room under the fridge on ours. We haven't found any additional places to create more storage in ours. So far.

hi, did the under stove mod on our last Monte ... works great. Only need to be aware that it does get warm under there, so store non-flammables like cook wear and such.

I found a trash can that was a little smaller and behind it I have a plastic tub full of cleaning supplies, as I could see a lot of wasted space around that can. that trash drawer is a very nice thing.

I have to agree with Don also ..we really like our slide out garbage can ..finally a place for it! We are looking to take the lazy-susan out and replace it with a shelf, I think that will give us more usable space.

There are a set of doors in the isldand that open toward the back of the coach. The top half has a shelf i there but the bottom is closed off with an access cover cause there are wires and pipes in there. I knocked the panel off, tapped into the 110 AC that goes to the plug in the island, and added a 110 outlet. I put our printer, velcroed to the floor, in there, in front of the wires, etc. My son installed a wireless rinter hub. When we plug into 110, the printer and wireless hub turn on by themselves. When I want to print from my laptop, it is always ready. To reload the paper or get the printed material out, etc., we just open the cabinet doors. Since the printer is velcroed down, it does not move around and nothing gets to the wires since they are behind the printer.

I now realize that although my small printer fits in the hole mentioned above, it is dangerous to put it next to the hot water heater so I abandoned that location. Sorry

That shelf is good for storing the vacuum tools. Someone at the Shasta rally had that (I can't remember who). BTW if you have the built in vacuum there is an empty space above it that could be use for something. We are considering it and also the space below the frig.
