where do I cut the hole?
We just bought our new Montana 3400. We now want to install our Sears Kenmore washer and dryer] Has anyone installed a vented dryer in their unit. I need to know where to cut the hole for the dryer vent, don't want to be cutting into a stud or wiring. I have sent a email to Montana but haven,t heard .anything back yet

Cool, thanks John.
Another thing to watch is the dew on the side of your Monte, it will show the studs in the wall, but on my 3400RL, they are nowhere close to where you need to cut.
I bought a 4" round hole cutter for $17.00 (I think) at a true value hardware store.

Justbeginning, it will also depend on the type of unit you have. Some of us have the Kenmore washer/dryer that is a one piece unit and others have the two units that stack on top of each other. The vent hole mounts different. Ozz's units are stacked and the vent mounts at the top and my unit comes out between the two units.

Thanks for the reply. Ours is an 07 3400. The washer dryer closet is just when you come in the door. We have an apartment size 2 piece unit and we just stack them. We had them in our other fifth wheel and they are excellent so before we traded our other unit off we just took them out. But we are not sure where it's safe to cut the hole. Have a wonderful day.

According to Keystone anywhere on that outside wall of the w/d closet is okay to cut the vent hole. Ours had a sign that told us but I also talked to Keystone.
Happy trails........................

I know you're asking about where to cut the vent hole but I also want to mention that in the manual for the dryer it likely has some guidelines about vent placement. I think one is to have the vent lower than the output of the dryer so lint doesn't accumulate in the line. Check to see what your manual says, though.
Ours was installed by our dealer but I can do some measuring for you if you need it. Ours is not Kenmore, though.

Woula appreciate it if you could measure yours. The vent comes out of the bottom and the back of the dryer. We are hoping to cut the hole as close to the wall between the bathroom and the closet as ot dryer just fits in the closet at the sides. There is enough room to run the dryer pipe behind the dryer but not along the sides. Thanks so very much.

When I opened the dryer closet the dryer is right up against the wall. The only inside measurement I can get is that the dryer bottom is 37 1/2 inches from the ceiling in that closet.
Outside, the center of the vent is 26 3/4 inches from the door frame. It is 47 1/2 inches above the molding that goes from doorframe to the storage locker. Bringing that height measurement inside and allowing for the distance between molding and floor of the coach, it appears the vent on the dryer is at the bottom of the dryer and the vent on the outside wall is at the same level.
I cannot see the vent or hose because the dryer is against that outside wall.
I haven't seen any dew on the outside lately so can't doublecheck but I don't think there's any framework that would interfere in that area. If you need more information, let me know.

It's the scariest hole you will cut! I saved the 4" plug and use it for a coffee coaster to remind me I actually did it in one cut, and I missed the graphics .

Sreigle Thank you very much for the info. We are going to cut the hole as soon as we get the vent kit we ordered. Another question, How heavy are the axles on your unit? Our dealer told us before we bought our fifth wheel that we had 7000 pound axels. When we looked at the decal on the axels they are in fact D60. We would not have bought it with 6000 lb. axels. Guess we join the rest of the group that were misled. Have a wonderful day.

Ours are 6000 lb axles but that's what was being installed when our unit was built last August. I am not positive but I think they started installing the 7,000 lb axles in December.
