keyless entry

Anybody found a keyless entry that will fit a Montana door? That would be a good improvement because you have to keep you keys in your pocket all the time. If you are in a nice warm place, and you got your shorts on, you have this big gob of keys to carry around. I know I could just have an extra made for that door and carry it around, but a keyless would be great! We had one on our stick house and loved it!

Actually, a keyless entry would be nice. Wouldn't surprise me to see it in the future.

Rich, that doesn't mean we want to see you outdoors in your thong !

I was just talking to Sue yesterday about a system like that, the big Class 'A's have them here in Tucson.
I think a better system would be a hidden button, or magnetic switch, a 12 volt solenoid with a plunger would probably work. I'll mull that over and see what I can come up with. I would want to stay away from another transmitter.

Ozz,

I can just see it now...... all of you Montana windows, awnings, cargo hatches start opening when you press your button. Then the automatic hydralic lifts start raising and lowering and then your truck alarm goes off because you are pushing the wrong button.

Another idea is to fasten one of the push button lock boxes used in rental house leasing and real estate sales to the wall inside the propane tank storage area nd when you leave you can put your keys in it and retrieve them when you return. Also a great place to keep a spare key in case you loose yours or someone needs one when you are not around. The combo can be set to what ever you would like. These boxes are available at Home Depot and Lowes for around 50.00. Just a thought, works for us.

Now that is the fix!! I'd certainly look into this one. I thought of what it'd take to put a solenoid into the existing lock structure and it'd be a real challenge running the wires through the door hinges, etc.

The keyless entrys I had just had a key pad with numbers on it. There was a battery on the inside that lasted for years..If the battery went dead, you could still use a key you had previously stashed to get in. It was just a deadbolt. You still used your same door knob you always had. Thanks for all the conversation. Hopefully, I won't ask a dumb question, and shoot myself in the foot!! ha ha..

Montana Rog,

I think your idea is a great one. Our outside light getting into the RV is poor at best. We have been at campgrounds that give you great lighting so you can see the keyhole, but then that same light stays on all night long. I hate the lights when I want to get some shut eye. Sorry I stole your thread and made fun of Ozz... just couldn't resist as he has just about everthing you could do to upgrade your Montana on his. I would think that a keyless entry might be harder to break into then the key lock that is on the Montanas. I have no clue to how many different locks they put on the Montanas. I just wonder if my key will fit my neighbors?
