Remote Control

I don't know about anyone else, but since I have replaced my Quest stereo with a different stereo and separate DVD, plus the satellite dish and the TV in the bedroom, my Montana is starting to resemble the living room at home - remotes stacked to the ceiling. So, recently I bought a Harmony 659 remote for at home. It works great. So, I just ordered a little less expensive one for the Montana - the Logitech Harmony 628 from Amazon.com - $50 delivered. The Logitech remotes are programmed over the Internet, so it is best done over a Cable or DSL system. You will also need the model number for each item you wish to control. It is different than other remotes in that it is "activity" based instead of device based. There is a button for "Watch TV". When I hit that button, it automatically turns on my TV, Satellite receiver, and stereo receiver. It puts the TV on the right input. When I hit the off button, it turns all of the components off. If I want to watch a DVD, I hit the "Watch a Movie" button. It turns on the TV,DVD, and Stereo. It also sets the stereo to the proper input, and the volume control operates the stereo. The price for these remotes over the internet is significantly cheaper than in stores. I bought my 659 for $90 delivered. It is $149 at Circuit City. They said their cost is $107. Anyway, I am anxiously awaiting my new addition to the Montana.

Can't wait for results! Please let us know if it is worth it. I know what you mean about all the remotes.

I too am interested in the results of your remote replacement.I also replace that @#&% quest unit with sepearte units, (tuner and DVDecorder/Player). I just counted them, and I have 4 remotes here on the table. One would be great! It also works your cable box?

I really like the Harmony 659 for at home, but didn't want to spend $88 at newegg.com to buy another one for the Montana. But $45 for one that will control the TV, DVD, Satellite, Receiver and Bedroom TV is worth it to me. You need the model numbers for each component. I am hoping it arrives tomorrow. It shipped on 5/10 and I paid for two day shipping. Thought it might be here today as it was in Chicago. Will let you know how the 628 is after it is programmed.

Well, the new Logitech remote worked great for everything but the stupid Sylvania TV/DVD player. I didn't see a code for the tv/dvd, but everything else worked great. It's nice to get rid of four remotes (stereo, tv, dvd, satellite) and have just one lighted remote on the end table. And $45 is a good price for that convenience.
