Hydraulic pump for slides

Well, I just finished up replacing 2 leaking hydraulic hoses and while doing an "ops Check" the pump shuts off and then starts again in a couple of seconds. I also just replaced the batteries with 2 6 volt Trojans, double checked for any other leaks, none found. It almost seems like a circuit breaker opens and then resets. It looks like there are 2 circuit breakers mounted in the battery box behind the batteries and I'm wondering if anyone has has to replace them for this kind of problem? It is cold out and I know everything is stiff but it just doesn't seem right that the slides start and stop so much. Oh, all the slides do it but the main one is worse. Any suggestions?

You said you have 2 cir. brkrs. which is an upgrade. I would suggest to check, maybe re tighten connections in wires to and from both. The second one was put there to prevent what you are experiencing. You could have a bad brkr. but not likely. Good Luck !!! Larry

Do you have the battery disconnect on? I just went thru this with our rig and as soon as it dawned on me that the battery disconnect was on and I turned it off the slides worked fine again. What got me twice in the last year is looking at the sign that has a big off and a little on and the sign above it saying battery disconnect. I read it to mean that when it's in the off position the battery disconnect is off, but it's exactly the opposite on our rig.

If the wiring is still the same as our 06, one of those breakers is for the pump, the other is on the battery output to the dc panel and converter output. Lippert's solution was to parallel two 50 amp breakers to protect the pump, which especially in cold weather, can draw more than 50 amps.

I don't have the Lippert PDF any more, but I'm sure someone on here will offer up.

The auto reset circuit breakers have been a problem for many of us. I also have two in the same area, but one is for the pump, the other for everything else.
Replacing the old one with a new one of equal amperage often results in a temporary fix. Many of us have added a second one in parallel for the one to the pump. I paralleled two 40 amp instead of two 50 amp and it has worked fine ever since.
Here is a picture of mine. I paralleled the two with some short buss bars from Home Depot.

Thanks for all the info. I'll have to check for a battery disconnect. Haven't found one yet. I may try replacing the CB's and see what happens. I'll let you know. Thanks again.

Oh, by the way, the Monty is a 2006 3400rl. I did go and get a new 50amp CB and I'll test it out sometime tomorrow. This thing has turned into quite a project. I knew it would as it was a "repo" but with me just retiring I've got the time. Thanks again for the info.

Doug, stay with it and come here often for help. We on this forum have just about seen it all. I have the 06 3400 like yours and had to add the second reset breaker in parallel per Lipperts "fix" as shown in picture by BBTex.

Yep, pump can draw near 80 amps under a heavy load (like pumping cold fluid) and the OEM 40 or 50 amp breaker will trip. Changed ours by adding a second breaker to double the load cap, no problem since.

Doug K, make sure you double check to make sure all of the nuts on the terminals are snug. Also, the white 10 ga wire that is attached to the terminal on the side of the solenoid switch (Trombetta) is seeing a good ground at the chassis. Simply loosen it a little and then snug the screw back down. Most of the time, a loose or, corroded connection will cause a high amperage draw from the pump motor. Remember, those auto-resetting breakers get weaker each time they pop open. And, they will eventually not reset.

I may have posted this before but, one of the things I did to our unit which, is basically the same floor plan as the 3400RL was to put the hydraulic pump on a circuit all by itself. That is, I added a 12 volt 70 amp manual reset breaker between the pump motor and batteries. Have never had any problem. If it ever does pop open while the slides are moving or, the landing legs going up and down, I want to investigate why it popped before it gets reset.

Well, I just tried it with the new 50amp cb installed and everything worked great. Now on to the next project. Looks like there was a leak at the back of the main slide. I'll check that next and see what I find. Thanks for all your help and I'm sure I'll be asking for more.
