Mud Dauber Screen
I'm getting conflicting info about theses screens. Should they be removed before you use the furnace?

I duct tape the holes AND WRITE A NOTE with tape on my remote....that way I never forget to remove tape.
Now if I can just get those wasps to stop stinging me when I put down awning.

We use the furnace screen covers bought at an RV place. Never take them off.

I read in a RV magazine to put those curly, strechy mosquito bracelets in the ouside storage compartments, hot water, furnace, etc. to keep bugs & bees out of them !!
I am trying it, but our rig is new so I just started. figured it is worth a try for 98 cents a bracelet!!

I use the same type of screen and have never had a problem. Make sure that nothing is built up on the screen so that the air flow is not restricted.

I use the same thing and they have been on since day one never taken them off, but I never had them on my other trailer and never had a problem with wasps building nests there usually under the awning or in the little grove on the tube, Roman

I do not remove my screen on my coach before using the furnace. My screen is a square style one that covers both holes instead of two single circle screens. I have had the furnace running for the past 2 weeks and so far no problems.

The Suburban Furnace Owners Manual does say not to use them. But I do, and I leave them on all the time with no apparent ill-effect. It is not only mud daubers, but tree frogs, and I have heard that there is very small bird that will try to get in.
Although it is certainly possible to make your own out of screening, I prefer the dome or box shaped stainless mesh becuse the greater mesh area allows for less flow restriction.

Thanks everyone.
OntMont, that is what I needed to hear. I read where it said not to use them but I wanted to hear if anyone was having any problems. It seemed a little labor intensive to be taking them off and putting them back on all the time.

When we bought our Montana, the previous owner had installed a one piece screen. We have used the furnace many times with no problems.

Sweetfire, having lived in a mud dauber area for most of my life I've had those screens on our fifthwheels for the past 11 years with nary a problem. I will not be without them. In our fulltiming we have spent Nov/Dec in some subfreezing weather (for days and days without reaching up to freezing)each of the past three winters. The furnace has run for long periods of time. I don't see that the screens have any significant impact on the ability of the furnace to exhaust or to draw air. And we've had no furnace problems.
