RL3402 brakes

Im about to re pack bearings and check the brakes. Does anyone know the size that goes with a 3402 . Also if new parts are required is Dextar the only way to go or is most mfg about the same quality.
Also from going to a local rv supplier it seems whole hubs and brake assembly are not that expensive compared to the labour costs of re re the parts.? Any thoughts would be apprec.

You will at least need new wheel seals, which are Dexter #010-036-00 or just #10-36. I tried to not use other brands of backing plate/brake assemblies. The Dexter assemblies are USA made and usually hold up quite well. If everything is good, maybe a pound of high quality grease, the four seals, rags and solvent to clean the bearings are all you should need. If you need new brake assemblies, you should be able to get them for a bit more than $100 per wheel. The assemblies come either RH or LH for the right or left side of the axle. You don't say what year your rig is, but if it is new enough, you might be lucky to have the hydraulic leveling system which will make servicing your brakes and bearings much easier.

Try to find a trailer supply house near you. Most larger cities will have one or two. This should be much cheaper than an RV dealer. And yes, for the small difference in price buying the whole assembly makes sense. There can be a lot of heat generated in a brake assembly, and some of the small parts can become fatigued from it. Then again, by the time you replace all four brakes you will have spent about 30 or 35% of what it would cost to convert to disc brakes (providing you are doing all the work yourself)
