Are Double Pane Windows Worth It?

My wife and I will be ordering a 3121RL shortly and we are trying to decide if double pane windows are worth the additional $1500 list cost. This will be our first RV so we have no experience about any of this. We will be doing extended camping in more temperate climates. Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

We don't have them, and pretty much use the ceiling fan all the time and have never had condensation problems. A friend with SOB claims a weight issue.

I've heard they make the trailer quieter but they're expensive to fix WHEN they lose their seal and fog up.

We do not have them on both Montana's. We have never had a problem with condensation. They do little to reduce Noise and little to keep out heat or cold. IMO not worth the cost.

IMHO not worth it. If its that cold, we either will not go or choose a warmer place to go.

windows

We have never had them...….stayed in temps down to 5 degrees and up to 105.
For the cost.....was not worth it to me.

We have had them on all of our Montanas to date.

We believe they do reduce outside noise but the real reason we won't be without them is because we camp in cooler temps both in the spring and fall.

Just tour a campground when the temps are near freezing and one can clearly see all the fogged up single pains laden with moisture.
That is our story and we are sticking to it.

We summer in Kansas and winter in New Mexico so we deal with intense heat and some pretty cold nights and high winds both places. Our first Monty had double panes and the new one doesn't. We find no difference in noise or condensation. We had double panes in our sticks and bricks, but the difference between the panes was much larger in a home than it is in a framless RV window.

We have had both. The noise reduction was the biggest gain. Remember if the list price add on is $1500 you will only pay about 60% of that.

Had 2 Montana's with them a one without them. I think they are worth it. The noise reduction is less and if you winter in it when you are setting near the window you don't feel the cold as much.

Vote yes they are worth it. Had two Montana's one with and one without. I would buy them again. As a matter of fact we are considering a SOB that comes standard with them.

Our old trailer didn't have them. We ordered them when we bought our Montana. We like them. They really seem to help with outside noise compared to our old one. We would order them again.

Do the double pane windows help keep some of the heat outside during the hot summer weather?

I can only recall o ne time when we had excessive condensation - this summer - when we had a big temp swing after a rainstorm while in Maine.

Noise reduction - not sure that really is a big problem. If it's that loud outside, to be objectionable windows wont help that much.

Heat/cold reduction - we keep the blinds closed on the sun side for heat, all closed for cold

Weight - that's a biggie if you have a marginal capacity truck. Add 10 pounds per small opening pane, 30-50 for one of the reer back cap and 20-30 for the sides. You may, guesstimating only, end up with over 500 pounds added weight.

If you seldom tow, preferring to 'seasonal' then maybe go the bucks for whatever creature comforts may help.

Add-up to an eventual trade-in will probably add little or nothing to the value for your $1500 bucks.

Of course, this is mostly only my opinion

Slide toppers, in our case helped quite a bit on noise during a heavy rain plus kept the slide's ceilings cooler.

We never had dual pane, or sealed windows on our 2 Montana fivers. Our DP came with them so now we have some experience having them.

Since the driver's side window on my present rig is an opening slider it is the only window that is NOT a dual pane. There is a huge difference in the amount of radiant heat that comes through that window when we are in warm areas. In addition, on chilly mornings I can tell a noticeable difference on cold air around the single pane.

Can't really speak to the noise reduction issue since I can't compare Montana's with them or without them. I do know in a residential application they make a big difference in noise reduction.

We have them and like the fact that it helps keep the coach cooler in summer, warmer in winter and more quiet all the time. We did have a cell failure on the largest (rear) window. It cost $450 parts and labor to have it replaced by a place that specializes in RV glass work. I've had cell failures in my home too so having one cell failure on my "rolling earthquake" in 80K miles is no big deal to me.

Everything is a trade off

I have them and primarily got them for noise reduction as we are usually parked within a few feet from neighbors or noisy kids or road or train noise. I notice it is quieter from road noise at night when it's important. I guess you could use a fan and drown out the noise.
I'm sure it makes some difference in temps but may be harder to discern. We have wintered in Florida and do okay with only one a/c from Nov thru April.
Obviously weight and cost are the downside but I get the upside for years to come.
To each his own!

I have them and like them. Reduction in noise is worth it alone. Those that say they weigh too much, really how much can the few extra panes of glass weigh? 75 pounds?

The question should be, are windows with twice the R value worth it to you?
I have single pane windows. Next RV will have dual or thermopane windows.
Warmer, cooler, quieter...
