Adding water during Boondock outing
I'm at beautiful Fort Worden,WA. I new the water is shut off in winter so main tank was filled. I will need a way to ad 5 or 10 gallons later in the week. My Monty jus has hose outlets. Has anyone created simple solution to add water when needed? I have a 5 gallon plastic cannister but it's outlet does not twist on to a hose

Autoparts should have a new, clean funnel with a long narrow hose on it that should fit in to the water tank outlet(inlet?). These are normally used to add transmission fluid to a vehicle and those tubes that hold the dipstick are pretty narrow, so I would think that should work for you.

I'm reading some ideas that I can use my outside water area in my 2014 Mountaineer to be able to suck water out of a bucket into RV. Would that be using the Winterization valve in some way?

I'm already disagreeing with my own theory above. Regarding Drjjj's idea about a small funnel down a hose would work but that seems lengthy and would reguire 2 people on a cold winter day to pour a 5 gallon bucket into a hose. My Montana is a 2014 and they don't have a water opening to pour into

I have a 2006 Montana. Are you saying that newer Montana RVs do not have the larger water fill spout for the fresh water tank? I would think this opening would be a necessity for a trailer otherwise they are implying you'd always be hooked up an RV site with hookups.
A funnel like is described should work fine. Anyfunnel with a long narrow neck should work. You might want to mark this funnel to identify its exclusively for this use. You don't want to use that funnel for anything else to prevent contamination. In fact, I have used one for boondocking and the water container had openings that did not reach the existing spout, so the funnel came in handy. DW had one in her set of kitchen tools that worked fine.

It's true ... many of the units built in the last couple of years don't have fresh water fill ports on the outside of the camper anymore ... I know ... hard to rationalize. Stick your winterizing fill hose in a bladder of water, flip the winterize valve on ... hook your outside shower hose from the shower back to your regular city water hose port ... put the fresh water lever to gravity and turn on your onboard pump and open the cold water valve on your outside shower. This will suck water from the bladder and route it back to your fresh water tank. This also assumes you have all the things above mentioned in your convenience center. Otherwise you can buy a stand alone 12V pump or pop the fresh water tank vent cap off and then use a funnel and water bucket.

To answer both of you. My 06 had a spout. My 2014 does not and none do I have a outside shower unit.. Looks like funnel in hose standing in truck is the cold and wet answer

or you could go to Harbor Freight and buy a 12 VDC water pump for 30.00 and pump it into the filler port.

I use an old rv water pump wired with a 12 volt auxiliary plug to fill when set up. When I know I will need more water than I have on board, I have a clean plastic 30 gallon drum to transport from the water source to the trailer. I use clear plastic hose and a 3/4" pvc pipe for a pick up tube from the drum. It takes less than ten minutes to empty the drum.

I haven't tried it, but others have reported that if you have the vent cover at the back of your camper, you can slip the cover off, remove the screen, and fill this way. I looked at mine last year, and it seems very doable. I wonder how much $$ it saves not to have the old type fill area? JT

I did just read you don't have a spout on your canister. In the past I've used a new gas can to fill when boon-docking. Just be sure to label it "water only" and use it specifically for that purpose.

Harbor freight makes a little 12v pump that works great.

Do a search on here as this has been discussed before. Yes you should be able to use your winterizing hose inlet and your built in 12 v water pump. You should be able to suck in water from what ever container you have and add to your water tank. I am sure I read a nice write up on this on this forum where the guy went into very good detail of exactly how to add water to the tank. I tried the removing the vent cover at the rear of the trailer. Decided that was not going to work to good for me. Good luck.

When we boondock in the desert, my son carries a 50 gal plastic barrel, food grade equipped with a 12 volt pump from Harbor Freight. That pump is wired to plug into the 7 way RV socket on the truck. We usually go to a nearest fire station, and they normally will let you fill up. When back at camp, hook onto short pump hose fitting with RV water hose and fill er' up... I can usually go 6-7 days without needing a refill, but that depends on the wife and showers too, ha..

This is what a lot of us that go to Quartzsite, AZ uses to refill our tanks. http://www.newworldmfg.com/y2k.htm You will need a pump either from Harbor freight or a RV water pump.
You can call them and tell them you are with the Montana Owners Club and they should give you good pricing.

Wait...Why would you use a gas can (non food-graded plastic) when there are actual containers made just for potable water and they are just as cheap? Just curious.

Wow. Guess I dodged a bullet on that one! Used it for 5 years and it didn't kill us. Could a new, clean plastic can be worse than the plastic tank on our units? JT

2014 Montana High Country Fresh Water tank vent on street side, black plastic, about 2 feet from rear, slides up and out with a little pull. Remove screen and use a funnel to pour water in. I set up my outside table to rest container on as I have had hand and shoulder surgery and can't hold up the 6 gallon container. Have electric pump that I am rigging now. 6 gallon water container Walmart $13.

The onboard pump can be used to fill from a water container. Set up as though winterizing, use water instead of antifreeze, and turn the lever to the "FILL" setting. I've done it many times, however soometimes it is hard to get it started due to air an air lock.
