Water heater maintenance

Hi all,

We are returning home soon and I wanted to do maintenance on our water heater. We have a Montana 3610RL.

From the things I have read, a good way to eliminate calcium build up in the water heater is to treat with vinegar. After putting vinegar into the hot water heater, heat is turned on and Left on overnight. The next day the water heater is flushed and clears out a lot of the calcium.

My question is this..... what is the best way to route vinegar into the hot water heater so it can do it’s magic? Do I use the connection that is used to winterize the RV? I am just unsure as to the process.

Thanks in advance.

All I have ever done is to use one of the flush wands to flush all the crud out of the tank after draining it. I rotate the wand to spray up, down, and side to side until I no longer see particles coming out. We are not full timers but the WH is still fine after 13 years.

I use a wand, but we also use a water softener and seldom have any scale due to the use of the softener. Basically I'm using the wand when I have it open to check the rod.
