Domestic thermostat location on 3790RD

So after a day in our new Monty we noticed inconsistency on temps in coach and temp displayed (We do not have an In Command System) While running a/c. After investigating the location of the stat, which is at the coffee bar and on the pantry wall, I found out that the warm air from the pantry and basement area, where the furnace and water heater are mounted, was migrating into the wall the thermostat was mounted (There was a 6” hole cut in the wall space to facilitate wiring at factory. I insulated this area of the wall behind the thermostat with non expanding foam. Problem solved. These are the kind of issues we all talk about that could be solved by keystone without any added cost to production with just using a little bit of thought process

Sam, that's an interesting idea. I had thought at one time that my coffee maker was causing an issue but moving it to the kitchen island did not help. How did you put the foam in? Did you remove the TStat to get at the hole?

I removed t-stat and placed paper towels in hole to give the foam something to adhere to. The only issue is to ensure you leave enough tail on wiring to allow for removal and replacement of the t-stat while still having room to coil wire up in hole when reinstalling it. I did not unwire stat while doing this. Use the white foam, not yellow. The yellow can expand to the point that it could deform the wall. As indicated in other posts the location of this stat is still not ideal. Due to lack of air movement you will still see some discrepancies in temps, but it did improve the overall operation of the a/c along with the heat

Great, thanks. I'll give that a try. I read somewhere that there is a temp sensor on some models that is placed somewhere other than at the TStat on some model Montanas, but I don't think ours has that. I can't find any other sensors or devices that could be a temp sensor.

Out of curiosity, what year is your 3790? We have a 2019 3791RD and have been having major issues with the A/C that appears to be common with the Dometic dual zone units. See https://www.montanaowners.com/forums...ad.php?t=81164.

Insulation on the outside wall of the pantry, even if it's just bubble foam, will also make a difference on temps in there.

Our 3790 is a 2020. As with all cupboards with doors they heat or cool depending on season because of exposure to exterior walls and no air circulation. I like the extra insulation idea on outside wall Another issue is, if you have your front basement open that will allow hot air to enter through your return air grill and migrates into pantry interior wall by the furnace. For curiosity i suggest removing the access panel For water heater and furnace located on the inside lower section of pantry and snoop around. This will help explain what is going on withe heat. On the remote temp sensor I believe only the “In command” control center is the only system that uses a remote sensor

I have a small fan sitting on the coffee bar circulating air over the thermostat, it is sitting in a dead air pocket. It tracks a lot closer now to our thermometer that sits on the island.

That makes sense why we don't have the remote sensor then. I don't have the In Command system. Thanks.
