Cleaning floor vents

Can someone tell me how to clean the floor vents in our Monty? I know we can unscrew them and vacuum them out that way, but Doug said we will end up stripping the screws after awhile. I keep thinking that if I could find something small enough to fit between the slats and I could get the vacuum in there that that might do the trick, but haven't found anything yet. We have a dog and cat with lots of loose hair and it seems to collect in the vents!

It wouldn't be the end of the world if you just left the screws out. Just make sure the vent is not is a place that would obstruct an incoming slide if it was not entirely flush with the floor or you might cause some damage.

I clean mine twice a year still have the same screws since 2004. If you strip one replace it with a stainless steel self tapping screw.

I installed a piece of window screen under the vents. This prevents objects from dropping down into the heat duct. It also allows me to use our vacuum cleaner with a narrow slot fitting to fit down to the heat vents and clean them out. I too have removed the vents several times in over seven years of full timing and the screws still hold tight. If they did become stripped out I would use the old "toothpick and Elmer's glue" trick.

I changed mine out with nice oak ones to match cabinets and used double sided tape... No screws or holes in covers

I replaced mine with adjustable ones from Lowes and just set them in the slots. No screws-no problem.

I seem to recall that there is some type of screw out there that is just a twist lock. I'd have to drop into the hardware store to research this, but today I'm busy cleaning the Hanna after our two week trip. Maybe tomorrow. If anyone finds one sooner, let us know. Some of you may remember them. Just a slight push with a screw driver and it unlocks, and reverse the procedure to lock. Almost like the storage locks, but flush and a screw driver tip instead of a key.

I like this idea Orv...
I have used filter material under each vent to add a little bit, but even with a quality furnace filter added, they get dirty fast with use.
