Cell phone antenna
Because we knew that we would be in some remote areas on our trip to Alaska, Glen has made me a cell phone antenna. He purchased an inexpensive, light weight extendable pole that is usually used for a swimming pool net. At one end he inserted a wooden plug and then stapled a heavy duty washer to the plug. We put our Wilson magnetic antenna base on the washer, extended the pole, and yippee! Four bars! The pole is bungeed to the arm of the awning but could be attached to the handle outside the door. Just wanted to share this idea in case you need a better connection.

Sounds like a good idea! We use an ext. antenna on the truck, and sometimes bring it into the trailer, but so far I have not really worked out a good way to mount it on the trailer in reliable but temporary manner. I think I'll give your idea a try.

Good idea! Bob put a washer on our roof with sealant and we put our antenna on that. It has ridden up there for 3 years without falling off. Not our idea, came from the antenna salesman in Yuma.

The only places you will get reception is by larger cities. Nowhere in the yukon that we found had any cell reception.
Buy another spare tire for the trailer and if possible one for the truck as well. With the gravel portions as well as animal population you sincerely don't need to strand yourself however well equipped to handle a long stay
Any other questions you might have about travel on the alcan, We're relatively well versed... done it 3 times on 2 different routes so far, in the past year.

Thanks for the comments, everyone.
SpoolinTurbo, I don't expect connectivity in the Yukon. If I get some in Canada, I'll be happy. Even in some areas of the states the antenna is helpful and makes the difference between connectivity or not. Thanks for your offer to answer questions.

Also, are there adapters from antenna to phone so when you trade for a new phone you don't have to buy another external antenna?

Try Radio Shack. They had the adapter that I needed for mine.

If you go to the Wilson Antenna internet site, they will have the prices for all the different antennas and the adapters. We ordered one for our specific phone and it was shipped promptly. We have the basic RV magnetic base antenna and it gives us just the boost we need. If you don't have any signal, it's probably not enough to find one. Flying J does have a good supply, too.
