Dead Battery in Storage
What suggestions do you have to avoid house battery going dead while RV is stored. Pain to have to charge or hook up to TV get the gear down/up and slides to work.

Since we often store our Monty for weeks at a time, we tend to have the same problem. I am having the dealer install a battery disconnect when the RV is in for winterizing. I hope that solves or at least reduces the problem next summer.

The simplest method would be to disconnect the positive and negative cables.

I always pull the batteries from the unit when in storage. Doing so allows me to prevent them from freezing, monitor the fluid level and keep them on a trickle charger.

This topic has come up before so a search of archives may provide a wealth of knowledge. The reason for the discharge is the safety sensors like carbon monoxide that have a trickle draw on the battery. A battery disconnect is easy to install. West Marine has several that accomodate one or two batterys. On our 3295, I mounted the switch to the wall behind the battery compartment. The whole install took about an hour. Never had a drained battery thereafter.
BTW, if you decide to disconnect the battery manually, you only need to disconnect ONE connection to the battery. The safest, in this case, is to disconnect the "ground" side.

You could also buy a solar trickle charger and then you would never have a dead battery.

I do as all the others have already mentioned, disconnect the battery. I top off the water level, and fully charge it before it goes to storage for winter. I leave the battery in the coach and come spring reconnect and I am ready to go.

I assume you don't have shore power available when in storage. We had power available so just left it plugged in all winter and the converter kept the battery charged.

Steve,
No power in storage shop, but could go outside and there is power available. I think I would rather be covered stored in doors on concrete floors w/ no power than outside with power. Hope someday they will get power inside.

I installed a marine battery cutoff switch I bought and use between trips, In the winter I pull the battery and keep in in the garage so I can put it on a trikle charger once a week for a couple of hours.
