I Need Advice!
I hear pros and cons on this subject.
I would like to hear from someone with experience.
I would like to carry my 22 Gal. Blue Waste tank straped to the rear ladder. The tank is fairly light and wouldn't be swinging around like a bicycle.
Whats your opinons ? Thanks in advance.
Jack

Jack, I am 200 lbs and am up and down my ladder quite a bit. Cleaning off the slides and hooking up a Wilson antenna whenever we park and putting a flag pole up also. I would think that if you strap the tank to the ladder securely you won't have a problem. Keep in mind, we don't have one but I think the ladder is strong enough. That's MY story and I'm sticking to it.

I go about 270 and routinely go on the roof for maintenance. I have also used a bike rack on the ladder. No problems. Just watch out for seagulls following the waste tank.

I carried a 8' fiberglass ladder for over 10K miles and had no problem.

Jack I used to carry my blue tank on the ladder with no problem. I did find room in the bed of my truck where I now carry it. But you would not have a problem on your ladder.

I carried the biggest Blue Boy on our ladder for over six years. I did have two bolts on the ladder break loose at the top of the ladder. Don't know if it was the fault of carrying the Blue Boy or not. We had a new ladder installed (bottom of the ladder was bent and cracked) and we no longer carry the Blue Boy.

Should be fine, plus it eliminates tailgaters if they know what that really is!

Jack,
I think it would ride just fine on the ladder, but you might reconsider if it is an item really needed. From what I know about people who have them, most don't keep them very long after they consider the amount of space they take up. Most couples can go 2 weeks without dumping the black tank. JMHO

The ladder would probably support the Blue Boy. We considered a Blue Boy but since we don't do no boondocking and always stay at a 50 amp full hook-up site, we decided it would just be another thing to move around. Good luck with your choice. GBY....

The reason I wanted to carry the blue tank is because there are a few places locally we camp that only have a dump and no sewer hookup. The grey tank is the one I worry about,we both like our nightly showers and the DW does quite a bit of cooking which is why the grey tank fills up quickly.
I learn the hard way,one time I had to break down the trailer and tow it about 200 feet just to dump the grey tank, live and learn.
By carrying the BT on the ladder,it's out of the way and takes up no storage space.

I need to check, but I THINK it is this month's Trailer Life magazine where someone shared a "do it yourself" idea for exactly what you are talking about...they went to Walmart bought a 5 gallon water tank; used a waste hose and attached it to the opening of the water tank with a pipe clamp, the other end had the "normal" end for putting into a dump station. I am planning to try that idea as my "thing" is grey water for showers when we are at state parks with just dump stations. I really don't want to spring more than $100 for something I will not be using with great frequency, nor do I really want to use a lot of basement storage space for one. (Okay, its a bigger issue for Doug than me about the storage thing, but I DO try to humor him occassionally! LOL)
Don't want to turn this into a how long you can go without dumping thread, but I would like to have some additional options IF the grey water tank does fill up wherever I am that doesn't have a sewer hook up. (I have a private bath/shower for a reason and I am NOT in the military and don't like those get wet, turn off water, soap up, rinse off showers...that's MY story and I'm sticking to it! LOL) I am thinking/hoping that this above is a viable option for us. I'll look for the magazine and let you know which one it is (I do recall that they have a website for the magazine so you could see the particulars there, once I can share the actual magazine title with you.)

Thanks for the idea Robin, but I already have 22 Gal. Blue tank.
When we go locally for only 3 or 4 days and they only provide the dump station I'll use the blue tank for a couple of days than dump it,store it back on the ladder than use our grey tank until departure and than dump on the way out.

Jack, We've looked into a Blue Boy for Chester Frost in Chattanooga, and if we get one will more than likely store it in the truck bed.Seems like I've read a few post on this forum about merging the galley and gray water (using an external valve)for more storage before needing to dump. Got me thinking, good luck. Steve

I have heard that some have made a rack for it to slide underneath when on the road.
Who did that?

Not sure what your blue tank is like but they sell an adapter to fit your truck so you can just pull it behind since it gets heavy. It is like $16.00. Just a thought as ours did not have it and sure makes it easier to haul to the dump station. We are staying at Ft. Desoto in March and like you said they do not have sewer. We are planning on taking the blue tank that is in storage and attaching it to the ladder.

I do have the hook up adapter Bill,It actually fits into the Blue tank handle and the other end fits over the ball of your bumper hitch which allows you to pull it to the dump station with your P/U.
This is a necessity,Tank weighs around 150 lbs. when full.
