Picked it up today!

Christmas in March! Hitched up the 03 Mountaineer 298RLS and towed it to the dealer to trade in (along with a sizeable check of course) for the 2009 3400RL 10th Anniversary edition. What an awesome rig!

Pretty painless - all of the issues I had pointed out in the "pre" PDI were fixed for the PDI. Only hiccup was I had a "senior moment" and left the title to my old 5er at home. Dealer was gracious enought to let me bring the new rig home and I'll get the title to him ASAP. I have to decide on the extended warranty as well. Tough call as they are not cheap, but neither are RV parts.

First stop was the CAT scales as I am a bit concerned about towing with a 2500. I was very pleased with the way it towed up I-95 and on the back roads. The Duramax knows there is another ton+ back there, but not too bad overall. Stopping distance seems marginally longer, but not bad either. Handled great with the semis blowing past. Happy to see all of the weights, save the truck GVWR, are well within limits. That is a couple of hundred over right now. We are pretty light packers, but I'll reweigh when I load everything back in. Taking a trip next week and will see how it does.

Anyway, I'm sure I'll have a lot of questions of fellow 3400 owners as I shake it down. Lots more toys then my other rig to figure out.

Thanks for listening!

Butch

Congratulations on your new 3400RL. We have a 2008 that we just bought last year and love it! Enjoy playing with all the cool stuff.

Congrats on your new 3400RL. We picked up our new 2980RL 10th Anniversary edition 1 1/2 weeks ago and enjoyed the trip from Ohio back to Houston but like you said the Duramax knew that it was working for a change.

I took mine to the scales today. I had to have a certified weight to apply for a Texas title. I was surprised that it weighed 1000 lbs over the shipping weight of 10,415. I came in right at 11400. All of my tanks are dry except propane and I might have about 200 lbs of added stuff in the basement. How did your 3400RL weigh out compared to the shipping weight of 11925?

What part of WI are you from? We were to Kenosha for DW's moms funeral in January. DW and I grew up in Kenosha but have lived in Houston since the sixties.

Allan, it weighed in at about 1050# over "shipping weight", though I fully expected almost as much due to the 10th Anniversary add ons (corian counter, etc) and the 2nd a/c, = a few other options.

I'm in Eastern NC, by the way, but do want to get to the Great Lakes region eventually.

Sorry to hear about your MIL.

Butch,

Congratulations! On your pre-PDI you indicated the same spots on your trim that I have. I take they were able to resolve this issue for you? Just curious how they resolved it. I am dragging the 3400 over to the dealer on Friday to fix a few items on our way out of town for a quick weekend trip. I would like to know how your dealer fixed the problem and make sure mine is on the right track.

Congrats on your new rig. Did you buy it at Hawleys? We live in New Bern and that is where we got ours. We're taking it out for a short trip this weekend to Holiday Travel Park on Emerald Isle. Come on down and visit. This will be our second trip with it so we're checking out some more things on it (washer, micro, oven, satellite). I'll finish having the wheels balanced and metal valve stems put in today. If you haven't been reading the threads, get the wheels balanced. The shop has been putting a significant amount of weight on the wheels. I'm surprised that they aren't balanced when they are put on the rigs.

Rick - yes, we resolved the issue. As suspected, it was just VERY sloppy putty work at the factory that no one cleaned off. The dealer used a panel cleaner to get the spots off. I will get the name of the product for you. I'd say it's about a 95% solution, as I can still see a few slightly, but nothing I would've noticed if I didn't know they were already there.

Jim,

Yes - We bought this at the show in Raleigh and picked it up at the Hope Mills Hawley's. Thanks for the heads up on the tires. I will take them in next week to have them balanced. I do not want to have any issues with tires when carrying this size of a rig. Thanks for the invite, but I'm out of town on business unti late Friday. Then we'll be loading it up with all of the things we took out of the old one and I'll do the walk thru with the DW to show her what I can remember from my walk thru. Probably will head out next weekend. Thinking Wilmington or Medoc Mtn.

Congrats Butch, sounds like you are now one happy camper. We are sure you will love this floorplan as much as we do ours. Right off the lot ours too was at 900 lbs. over the shipping weight. Anyway, keep us posted!

Good luck with your new 3400. We have a 3400rl '08. This past fall we took it back to our dealer for warranty. They have completed all our requests fully back by Keystone. Picking it up in April and another fun season.

Congrads on your new 3400, we bought a 2008 last year and love it.
Bumped my head a few times on the basement, but now I'm use to it.
Very nice camper with lots of room. We pull with a king ranch 250 short bed with a V10 engine and have no problems at all. Enjoy your new toy and happy camping from Journeyon!!

Congrats neighbor. I know you will love your rig. You got it just in time for the upcoming camping season. Look up the rallies offered. If you attend , you will find there is no better group of RVrs anywhere. Happy camping
