As a kid growing up in Montana we had two big Ponderosa Pine trees in the horse pasture. Both were hit by lightning but the one closest to the house got hit more often. We lost a couple of horses due to lightning under that tree. They would get under it for protection and as kids we would go chase them away from it. My sister got a bit of a zap one day when crawling through the barbed wire fence, we decided it was time to head back to the house. I prefer to be in a nice solid house during lightning storms.

Tampa, FL has the highest number of lightening strikes
Lightening hit a tree (killed it) in the back yard, traveled to the railroad ties around our fresh water well & blew the ties about 4' away; then traveled down the electric fence wire about 100' to the electric fence charger stored up under the eve of the front porch and blew the pieces 30 feet across the porch.
If only we could harness the energy of lightening.
